Companion for OT that acts as a midi too

Hi all
I’m looking for a good companion for OT mk2 for samples with great versatlity to play patches with near piano or organ sounds maybe drums too. But id also like it to act as a good midi keyboard for Ableton too. Not too big. Budget is up to £500. Cheers

Check beatsqueezer, I would buy it if I didn’t have an MPC500, that can do that job too.
I personally prefer to have a separate midi keyboard. More choices after.
Blofeld can handle samples too. Desktop or keyboard version.
I’d really like to have a Nord Electro Rack 2.

Thanks Sezare. Im keen on the blofeld but will check other options you say too. Im just short of space and i know a lot of synths have better keybeds. Hence the dual purpose question.

Thanks Bradley. It does decent Piano too i believe.

I had a Blo desktop with SL, a lot of possibilities, but not very easy to manage sample part. Concerning synth part, I prefer the Micromonsta.

Can you tell me what part of the sampling into the OT was difficult for you. Its better i know now than later.

AFAIK, when you load samples with the Spectre software, you have to change all sample memory (64 Mb). Not flexible at all, you can’t edit it in the Blo.

I didn’t find great patches with samples except one with a nice Rhodes with 4 layers but it wasn’t working properly with velocity.

I didn’t like menus, filters, the way panning is handled depending on filters, I didn’t have pleasure creating patches, but there’s still a lot of possibilities for the price.

Ah and the worst for me, I didn’t like random lfos behavior at all, having to use several lfos with the boring matrix, with not great encoders increments behavior.

Gotcha. That does cause a bottleneck id rather not run into. The Little Micromonsta does seem very good for something so small!

Micromonsta sounds better for me, but no samples (wavetables only), 8 voices max, and monotimbral. Also no realistic piano sounds.

As it is very close to half OT width, I’ll buy another one to fit (polychain is handled), possibly soon.
Very logical and fast editing, total midi control, easy midi learn in OT.

Thats sounds great! Very deep. Endless possibilities. I could just record piano patterns and put them onto the CF card. Would that work better?

You mean a real piano ?

Yes.

Can’t be better.
Not exactly what you meant in your original post! Beatsqueezer in addition.

No its not sort of sidetracked a bit. Will check out the beatsqueezer. Have you seen the Yamaha Reface CP. Superb keyboard electric piano?

Reface is interesting but I prefer only one or two midi keyboard and desktop versions.
Don’t like mini keys.
I would be more interested in Digitone, made by a known manufacturer I don’t remember.

Is the beatsqueezer a Rompler?

It seems a really capable sampler.

at that price I would recommend the Deepmind 6. Its not a sampler, its a synth but you can create good piano/keyboard and percussion sounds.
Its my main controller for Ableton. Its 37 keys, has usb midi and regular midi in/out/thru, aftertouch, mod and pitch wheel. And the most important thing for me is that it has a sustain pedal input.
Had a hard time finding any other synth with those connectivity/interface requirements.
