Space isn’t real but it is an entertaining video.

Has anyone read “Rendezvous with Rama” by Arthur c. Clarke? It opens with a similar vessel approaching in a near-earth trajectory and it would make great reading while waiting for Atlas to approach.

Great tip!

Or this:

(waiting for someone to ask “What synth would you buy if you knew the world’s gonna end in 3 days”? )

This is the real world. We’re just stuck in a dystopian timeline.

Fantastic Movie🙌

For the few here interested in the hard science ( mostly ) of 3I/Atlas here is a 25 minute video which describes some detail of the unbefore observed physical phenomena of this unusual sort of comet. ( This video is likely not of interest to most in this forum, and it’s long. If you know astrophysics well you can speed up playback. )

Aside : I say mostly scientific, in that the video commentator, refers to the “consciousness” of the comet, the sun and the planets, almost in the way Stanisław Lem does in his 1961 science fiction book Solaris. ( Ignore the movies, read the book. )

What is the 'coma' of a comet :

“Something half the size of the sun has entered the solar system”

Seriously ?

Yes.

ADDED : An hour later, the comet irself is approximately 10 km in diameter.

Be aware though when he says massive he means large in size, NOT MASS. This body like all comets does not contain planetary quantity sorts of matter, far far from it. The size here is of the coma, which is the highly diffused cloud of gas and dust suŕround a very small asteroid sort of core.

ADDED : Diamonds !

Nice video. Time to stock up on water and supplies. I live in Portugal and the Spanish peninsula’s power system is incredibly fragile since they went 100% renewable.

Does this behavior of the sun happen during the night too?!

I’ll be naked on the mountain top next to a bonfire crushing my last sweet jams on my battery operated SP404mk2 through my House of Marley wood encapsulated earbuds singing to the sky in open defiance of The End.

Then it will pass by with no anlien invasion, no fire and brimstone, causing a couple power and internet outages then the police will come arrest me for public intoxication.

Should be good times. What day does it arrive exactly?

Didn’t he say it will be past the half way point some time next year?

It’s the other side of the Sun from Earth, and about as far out as Mars at that.
