What happened to college rock…was it just rebranded as “indie” some 20 years ago?

There was a band from Boston back in the 90’s called Come. They were incredible.

Pixies were from Boston and pretty much the definition of 80s College Rock.

I use to find this record every so often in used new arrival bin in the late 90s. A real high point in Boston college rock if you ask me.
It was partly this and partly NPR and other public stations eating up college radio frequencies. And encroaching public radio continues today (I’m still mad about Georgia State cutting all of Album 88’s daytime hours to give it to GPB)
