Has anyone experienced some undisputed moments of clairvoyance in their lives and if so did this ‘power’ seem to fade as you got older? Into my 20s I would at times make spontaneous associations that turned out to be true. For example, like 20 years ago a relative of mine said to me “guess what I am thinking?” and I blurted out “banana split!” and he swore it was, what he was thinking about. I’ve had a half a dozen or so of these sort of experiences that I knew of, that’s to say, I spoke about them and they turned out to be true, who knows about the things I felt but didn’t speak of. With that said I probably haven’t had one of these sort of confirmed incidents of clairvoyance in over 10 years and wonder if it’s due to the ability sort of fading or that I am not as social as I was and have less interactions which might corroborate such ‘psychic’ moments. With this said I am not a person who has much of an interest in the paranormal or hold any strong beliefs on such things.
I had a lot of Deja vu moments well into my young adult years… One particular that really stuck was when I was a teen… I dreamt I sat in the back seat of a car, talking to a person I had never met before, my best friend was driving and there were two other friends in the car. In my dream my friend was driving really fast over a small slope and hit a sharp corner really bad so that we went off the road on to a field where the car rolled over. I woke up in a cold sweat.
A cpl of years later me and my friends were heading out to a friends cabin for some midsummer festivities and I sat in the back seat of his car. I was talking with another friend and he said something that triggered a Deja vu moment and I suddenly remembered that dream and realized that the stranger in my dream was my friend (who I didn’t know when I had the dream) I was talking to. I looked out the front window and saw the same slope as in my dream and i just yelled out ”slow the fuck down”, which my friend did. We went over the slope and that Sharp corner came and we drove past it, no crash, no nothing, just my friends looking at me like I’m a weirdo… all other deja vu moments I’ve kind of shrugged off thinking it was my brain doing stuff, but that one instance was impossible to shrug off I still remember the moment both of the dream and “the incident” 20 years later.
I’m soon to be forty and haven’t had any sort of deja vu moments since maybe 15 years back. The only eerie ability I seem to have left is that I can very often precisely say what time it is without me having looked at a clock for several hours. My wife kind of always looks at me in disbelief when I correctly guess the time within a margin of 1 minute. I’m not always right though…
Mental power are quite discussed in yoga philosophy, but for some reason they are banished or made fun of in our modern culture. It’s not ‘scientific’ enough or maybe it would be to hard to control people with more mental powers, like clairvoyance. And yes you loose them if you don’t practice them, there are many method with different ‘spiritual’ groups.
Years ago at a pub quiz I called out the answer to a music question before it started playing, and got it right. I was as shocked as everyone in my team.
Usually I don’t do that, but it came in as a very strong suggestion in my head, like already knew the answer for sure.
Can’t remember the song now though
Sometimes an urge to predict something about to happen pops into my head.
Most recently we were in a restaurant and the food was taking an eternity; like over 30 mins late. More time went by and the someone at the table said they were going to go in to complain and I spontaneously announced to the table the food will be here in 26 seconds and began to count down in reverse out loud When I got to 1, kitchen doors swung open and out came the food. Everyone was ‘how did you know that?’
A week before that I was watching a sports game in the pub and last 15 minutes called out that the next score would be team X with a penalty. Guy beside me bet €2 against me. 3 mins later team X ran the length of the pitch, scored a penalty. So he said ‘double or quits’. So I ended up calling the next 2 scores and taking €8 from him. before the final whistle.
Doesn’t happen frequently, only a few times a year I’d say. And only ever works when the subconscious urge to call something pops into my head. I can’t forcibly predict lotto balls etc. If I decide to bet on an event in advance, and I try to rationalise what the outcome might be, I’m as randomly right or wrong as anyone else.
Interesting topic though.
Years ago I read-up and experimented a little with trying astral surfing and remote viewing. Whilst I didn’t pursue it much, more generally I think there could be areas of the brain/consciousness that can be developed for some mild ESP-like capabilities. - but probably requires commitment and discipline over a period of time to bring to the surface. Even trying to access such capabilities can be a very calming experience versus the overstimulating nature of everyday life - so if only a sort of meditation, probably good to try switching off your overactive ‘normal brain’ from time to time - even if only a fantasy!
This is the craziest thing ever. I was watching Mastermind many years ago and one of the questions was on French history which i know nothing about. I blurted a random French sounding word first thing that entered my head. Completely made up. Didnt even have a clue what the question meant. But it was exactly right. More weird than clairvoyance. The look on everyones faces when it was correct was complete wtf moment.
A couple of things:
When I was 7 or 8 I had an out of body experience after an Operation to remove my tonsils. Nothing weird as such, but I was floating around the ward looking down at all the other children. I also remember seeing a pencil up on a high ledge. Eventually I started to feel myself being pulled back and when I was over myself I could see my mum and dad sat either side of my bed and a Doctor pulling at the tubes attached to me. I came to, telling the Doctor to “Get off, get off” but sounding like a Chimney Sweep,
Next weird thing was many years later around 92/93.
I was introduced to the brother of one of my brothers friends. We were both into music production so I went to his studio in his mums flat. I’d been there a few hours and we were getting along great, talking about ambient music and equipment and then I just started looking up at his bedroom light. Not sure why as I didn’t have any reason or feeling about it.
Not really sure how long I was looking up at it but eventually he ask why I was staring at his light and I just said “because it’s going to explode”. And a few minutes later the bulb made a load bang and tripped the fuse box.
It freaked the f**k out of both of us and then we were both grinning and then laughing hysterically.
I hadn’t felt anything as such, or had foresight. There was a slight sense of daydreaming whilst looking at the light but I just said it was going to happen an it did.
Funny thing is I’m always sceptical about such stories.
I do have some crazy ouija board stories, but I’ll save those for another time.
I predicted Brandon Lee’s death by dummy bullet years before it happened.
This was my first experience as a medium. I use to practice with family members and friends.
It also works with objects not just living beings.
A more rational aspect of clairvoyance is called superforecasting. I used to practiced that too.
Can’t pretend otherwise, but this isn’t the kind of topic i tune in for here. I’m firmly aligned on the James Randi axis on this kind of stuff … right now, for the sake of the planet/nature/humanity, we shouldn’t quietly indulge the people who profit from fraudulently pretending to ‘read’ minds/future etc, because it’s all part of the same dangerous, irrational, anti-science movement that perpetuates falsehoods, generally for the $$$ and control/power …
… Having said that …
… I can actually see the future myself ! … and it’s not that i’ll shortly be muting this topic, but it concerns the very fate of Elektronauts* …
*This quote from the futurerationalwiki states .. On the 4th of April 2023 the Elektronauts forum site finally bit the dust suffering from an unhealthy imbalance of chaff>wheat (aka reddititis)
I will get premonitions about things, but its mostly about people calling me on the phone, or showing up randomly, or some such thing.
when i get that feeling though, its usually spot on. I will be thinking about someone i havnt heard from in years, super clear, then my phone rings… and its them.
not fascinating as far as foresight goes, but when its cracking, i swear i can feel the veil of reality tear open just a little bit…
I hadn’t really thought about this until you posted but again, back in 92/93 I used try to “meditate”. I didn’t (don’t) have any proper knowledge of practices or how to go about it. I’d just spend hours focusing on breathing. I’d bring my hands and fingers together breathing in and gently push away breathing out. And eventually I’d get these flashes in my mind or in fact directly in my (closed) eyes where I could clearly see places that were unfamiliar to me, but I was always moving through these places. Never still/static images. I could only keep these images/or stay in these places for about 3-4 seconds and I could only maintain this for a few minutes at a time. I can still do this but i’m rarely able to because I can’t often get to that state. Mind too full and muddled, too tired to actually focus and spend the time. I always fall asleep trying these days.
Are we witnessing the birth of the Electronautical avengers!?
I know this isn’t really directed at anyone in particular but personally I don’t claim to have any kind of ability or power. These are just experiences I’ve had. Not trying to sell anything.
Edit: we’ll it is now.
Our superpower is being annoyed while waiting for other people to assemble!
Not my clairvoyance most probably, but someone else’s. Years ago a man came into the bar where I was working in Austria and headed vaguely in the direction of the piano. I guessed from various factors he might be Argentinian (my useless superpower), and decided if he sat down at the piano I’d ask him to play my favorite song by Astor Piazolla - Not an unknown song, but something I’ve never heard anyone play before or since. He did stop at the piano, and before I had chance to ask he started playing the exact song I had in mind. After he’d finished I tried to talk to him, but he just smiled at me and walked out.
I’m always guessing things. Really annoys my wife when she asks me questions and I guess right. Randomly guessed my mates password once.
I put it down to fluke and luck as don’t believe I can read minds or anything but could be something else as life is full of the unexplained
I do think anyone who says they are clairvoyant or a psychic and charge for readings are charlatans and scam artists, even if they believe otherwise
Reading this gave me a shudder.
Milonga Del Ángel is likely my favorite Piazzolla song.
Did the bar have a photo of Thomas Bernhard in the bathroom?
Were you on that road before you saw it in your dream?
A year or so ago, I looked into why we have less Deja vu experiences as we get older and the answer seems to be related to novel experiences or how we have more novel experiences when we are young. By a certain age novel experience before rare as we have experienced so many things before so that feeling of connection between experiences gets a bit numb or we just have such a catalogue of memories or whatever…not sure if I am explaining it in an understandable way.
So, I was wondering if you were on that road before and if maybe that turn had already concerned you and you made some subconscious note of it.
One of the very saddest things for me about getting older is the lack or near extinction of novel experiences, it truly saddens me to no end…
How do I look up these methods / spiritual groups so I might learn more?
