I have a question for Chompi owners:
Can you also sample in mono or only in stereo?
I still love mine even though I barely use it. When I do itās so sweet and magical. Anyone mess with the newer firmwares? Iām not sure Iāve ever updated mineā¦
Same here. Still enjoying working with it. It took me a bit to learn how to not use it for something that itās not. For example trying to record perfect loops with it. Or making whole beats with it. Which is possible but not always easy.
Now i use it in a playful way that is refreshing and reminds me to no overthink the process. I made some cool sounds with just sampling a synth sound or a short sequence and then pitch it down, reverse it, put reverb, delay etc. on it and maybe resample it again.
I just upgraded to 1.1 and only used 0.9 before. So i canāt compare it to the previous firmwares. Everything works fine afaik.
One thing i noticed is that sometimes or actually most times when the recording loops itās audible. Not a click but something like a very very short dropout or so. Most of the times i can only hear it when i listen back on headphones.
If i copy a loop into the recording buffer it loops without audible artifacts. Just when i record sounds directly into the buffer i can hear where the recording loops.
I think thatās just the way it is but have you experienced the same behaviour?
I posted this in the Chase Bliss thread, but I will crosspost it here:
Looks like Chompi is merging with Chase Bliss, and the two people behind Chompi will be joining Chase Bliss in Minneapolis. Chase Bliss will be taking over support in the future.
The video is a good watch.
They must like the platform, and I am looking forward to seeing what they do with future firmware updates.
They didināt say anything about firmware updates with new additional stuff but i sure hope for it. I really like my Chompi but it could use some more effects or other cool stuff.
From the #announcements channel on their discord!
3. There will be more CHOMPI
Weāre working on another run of the CHOMPI sampler, and it will have some firmware surprises (also available for free to existing CHOMPI customers). The next run will be sold through the Chase Bliss website like any other Chase Bliss device. This run will be available later this year, though itās too soon to say when exactly. And donāt worry, weāll send a newsletter to you all at that time so you donāt miss out.
Thatās great news, I hadnāt seriously considered Chompi even though Iām currently on a serious sampler kick, but with a company of that stature behind it, with seriously excellent programming & manufacturing chops, Iām definitely far more more interested.
I was a kickstarter backer. Itās a unique device with a fast sampler engine, a āmagicā delay/reverb effect, a neat variphrase stretch, and a fun aesthetic with good mechanical keys but I ultimately moved on from it for the same reason as the OP-1: itās tape based and once youāve made an error in the looper, itās over. The sample management was finicky too, with a strict naming convention. All the best to the creators though and Chase bliss though, seems like a good pairing.
