iPad Pro. The one before the M1
Havenāt used an iPad for ages so good enough and you donāt need latest gen. What storage do you have btw?
I swear this thread is like a reading comprehension wasteland.
The op wants something cheap (like PO cheap), small (that can be thrown in a bag ā specifically smaller than a M:S), and that doesnāt require staring at a screen.
Also
how about tr-6s? pretty small, can be easily thrown in a small bag, has dedicated decksaver which can be paired with to protect faders in the bag, also battery operated so no powerbank needed⦠and itās pretty cheap second hand.
I disagree, I see it as chasing a red herring. The OP wants an awesome, fun, portable and cheap groovebox. Well, we all know the cheap part excludes anything really good - otherwise it would be settled.
Everyone answering knows the fun stuff, even used, starts at a slightly higher price point. We could try to stay in the OPās narrow requirements - go to any online retailer of used and new music wares, put in your search criteria of price, style, etc., and you have all the answers.
But again we all know that whatever cheap $100 piece we recommend will be just that - a cheap piece. I love my Korg Volca Sample OG. Itās cheap and sounds great but itās no match for my iPads. Not even the same solar system let alone same planet.
Sweetwater had those B stock Model:Cycles for $270 for a while, that would be fun.
I say you can have 2 out of the three following thingsā¦
Fun groovebox
Cheap groovebox
Feature rich groovebox
But getting all three in one may be a stretch. I personally can groove on any box. Maybe a DIY battery hack into an OG Digitakt? Gotta be able to score a well loved one for $350 somewhere.
Whatās that $99 Behringer vector synth, does it have a sequencer? That could be fun.
But Iām guessing to stay in the OPās affordable requirement Iād go with the small po33 and a geeky case so that I would feel cooler at the coffee kombucha shop.
This is true of everything, everywhere, which is what makes it hard and why people ask for help.
See! Following the constraints you came up with a great suggestion. A heartfelt bravo!
I laugh at your restraints and throw off those artificial mental shackles, rejecting outright the OPās wishes and state very clearly for everyone to hear -
SAVE UP A LITTLE MORE AND GET SOMETHING MORE EXPENSIVE THAT WILL POSSESS MORE POWER!
MORE POWER!!
MORE P O W E R !!!
At exactly the same size, I would go for an MC-101 if youāre into any melodic stuff at all. But I still think the best bet for the portable sketchpad the op wants is the tiny, cheap, battery operated Kaossilator. Itās not a sequencer in any way though. It all depends on what the intended use is, in any case.
Maybe consider a used Yamaha QY/70/100/300/700 with some nice rechargeable batteries? Theyāe cheap, small, portable & can be good sketchpads. They do have small screens though so maybe not what youāre looking for. But it checks a lot of your boxes I think & would be very cheap to try out at least
No no, i donāt need much features or power.
Easy, portable and fun is all I need.
Out of the bag, straight in my hands ready to play small thingies and sequence them
if thats the case, look into the Circuit Tracks/Rhythm dependent of if you like to sample/chop samples or just want drums + synth voices.
Already got them 4 times.
Unfortunately I am looking for something smaller, maximum 4 POs space
It doesnāt exist. Iāve been looking for it for years. Good luck on your quest, but know the calling may be your downfall.
Sometimes the iPad we have is better than the groovebox in the bush.
What is it you donāt like about the POās? The Woovebox is great.
Unfortunately Iāve read many people issues with them as theyāre old.
This may be a nice idea tho.
They should bring them back
Beatmakerās sketchbook from sucofunk seems cool
+1, I love my QY-70 and itās fantastic as a pure sequencer.
