I currently have Machinedrum(SPS UW+ mk-II), Monomachine, Octa-2, A4-2, MPC One, SP-404 mk1 & 2. My latest favorite is Isla S2400 for its simplicity and flow. I have previously owned all the Elektrons except Syntakt.
Looking for ideas/opinions on an affordable ($400~700) drum machine alternative to maybe replace Machinedrum, as MDM not being used to its fullest. At the time, MDM was the best drum machine, now 10 years later has lots of competition. I had Analog Rytm-2 about 3 years ago, sold it because just too many boxes, now I wish I had it back. Thanks for the feedback.
I know what you mean… I just think there’s $1000 extra sitting in it that can be replaced with a cheaper drum (for what I’m using it for). I’d rather put the extra $$ toward a Sub 37, Pro One or something else.
seconding Nord Drum, because it also sounds organic and not like one-shot samples (like the Model:Cycles for example if you don‘t sacrifice the LFOs). Even has a slightly similar vibe (and can also sound HEAVY.)
I don’t know where y’all are finding Nord Drum 2’s at this budget - I usually see them for about $1,000. Also the (edit: lack of sequencer) is going to feel really disappointing compared to the Elektron experience.
If you shop around you might get lucky and grab a Syntakt secondhand for around $800. Best sequencer in the game, though it’s nowhere near the Machinedrum in terms of sound design.
