Chat RTFM

If it’s pulling from official documentation, wouldn’t it be just as easy to CTRL+F in the actual manual? At least you wouldn’t have to question the accuracy of the information.

Funny. Someone made a front end for something I’ve been doing for a while now.

If you’re on a paid subscription of chatGPT, you can create your own GPT, feed it all the pdf manuals for the gear you have, and tell it to use only them for knowledge/answers.

Results are good. It can find stuff I sometimes have problems formulating questions for or can give answers or advice on how to connect gear A with gear B etc.

Attempted to use it once with a softball ST question. Got “An error occurred while generating the response: Error: Server error: 500 . Details: {“error”:“AI Error: [GoogleGenerativeAI Error]: Text not available. Response was blocked due to OTHER”}”

I already knew the answer anyway, so no big deal. I’m sort of burnt out on LLM stuff, so it doesn’t take much for me to turn away.

I recently was googling some alternatives to some very expensive studio monitors and the google AI was like yo these 50 dollar off brand Chinese Bluetooth speakers are what you want.

It could be called “Fora” or “Phora” because PH is cool for technology.

Even funnier after I verified whether phora was a word…. (Genus of small flies…. Buzzing like an AI responding to itself from its own different virtual users….)

Same. I wanted ask it one thing I know the Syntakt can do and one thing I know it can’t do. From my limited experience messing with ChatGPT, a big issue I’ve noticed is that it tends to be overly confident, even when it gets basic facts wrong.

I’ve done the same - have my “Studio helper” that is helping me out for my studio specific questions (trained on my setup, routing, manuals, examples, objectives and then of course different use cases).

When I set it up first, it was 3.5 and the difference now with 4.o is night and day :+1:.

I tried couple of questions before it asked to login and all of them were rehashing of some generic crap like “you’d have to experiment” and making irrelevant bullet points from random sections of the manual.
for example on question “how to make darude sandstorm lead” it told me to “Begin with an algorithm that offers a solid foundation for a complex sound.” rrriiight…

I also noticed that it pulled the manual from some other website and it was pretty outdated.
conclusion, not going to waste the electricity required to spew out that crap on silly questions like “how to enter to recording mode”, better RTFM once twice and you’ll have less disinformation.

No Deluge?! Boo

I tried one. I’m done.

I submitted the Deluge to be added…

Missed the chance to call it “Chat - Don’t RTFM”.

So this thing is basically the “AI” version of your friendly helpful forum users? Hmm…not sure how I feel about the recent trend to put everything possible online and if possible, give it “AI”. I mean, on one hand it’s massively wasteful in terms of energy and hardware used to have another thing globally accessible, on the other hand, there are probably some interesting developments happening, because of that and it might be used to kickstart another thing some time in the future, so maybe it’s a good thing? Someone might write some code now that might be used in some form or another in a software that I might use some time soon? Maybe? Probably not. I’m probably overthinking this…
