Change track sample to new pattern

Hello guys when I change pattern and start a new one, if I change a track sample ( machine or felx) change all the patters sample of the same track…for example

pattern 1 > track 1 > vocal
Start new pattern
Pattern 2 > track 2 > drumloop

If I go back to pattern 1 , track 1 , there is no more vocal but the drumloop…I miss something? Or its simply impossibly doing this whitout use parts ?

You can achieve what you want via either
Parts
Sample locks
Use of sample chains and slices.

Understanding Parts is essential to understanding octatrack.

Yes, you have to use (and understand) Parts.

To get a general idea:
Changing the sound (machines, scenes, FX) —> Parts
Changing the rhythm (Trigs, parameter locks) —> Pattern

I also like to remember visually that Patterns store what is on the 16 steps line and Parts store the rest.
You can have a go to the Merlin’s Thoughts on OT that you can download on the Files section of this forum.

If you only want to change the sample on a track - sound lock.
If you want to change machine assignment - new part.

Changing playback/src, amp, lfo or fx parameters could be solved by using parameter locks (p-lock every change on that track), or by using a new part.

Changes on playback/src setup, amp setup, lfo setup or fx setup pages (like loop on/off/auto, lfo waveforms etc.) need a new part, because you can’t p-lock those.

Same for midi tracks - everything on setup pages (midi channel, program change, cc assignments etc.) needs a new part.
