Challange - Jon Hopkins bass

Hey, im very fascinated by the dynamic bass sounds created by this guys Jon Hopkins.

Im wondering if anybody in here can hear/know how to create the bass Jon Hopkins use in the Open eye signal, and specially the end? It kind of sounds like he plays a big bungee… Very cool…

I know he use the ms 20, so thats how he get the filter screaming that develops. But the basic bungee bass, thats what im after

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q04ILDXe3QE here is the track, coolest bass starts approx. after 6 min…

Cheers:)

I tried something…(not for a challenge - just for a sharing).
You have to play a bit with parameters in real time (rez - cutoff - less ovrdrv) and also could be a good implementation to modify sound using Aftertouch or Velocity or MW or BC …

I didn’t program those in deep because I use the mini keys (I have A4…)

Sharing is good too:) I think you are on to something, especially on how to get something this dynamic.

But first of all im interested in the bungee (that what i think it sounds like) bass. Its very snappy, with a hard click in the beginning.

I think its more clear and simple here in this track:

appearing at about 2.50… any idea where to begin?

for the bungee…what comes in mind is a fast envelope on Pitch. Like the ones used for kicks…

Sounds like two sawtooth oscillators a 5th apart with slight detune and glissando. Amp envelope has short attack and decay, and the bungee sound comes from the LP filter envelope. Attack is a bit slower, fast decay, and quite a bit of resonance

Alright, thanks for feedback.

I have managed to create both the saw bass, and the bungee, but not on the same sound. I think the filter envelope is not fast enough, but i managed to get some bungee like sound with LFO to LP filter and LFO to overdrive, with exp setting on the lfo wave. However then i loose the bass sound in the bottom.

Btw… glissando… where do i find that?
