Can't play notes on other external synths with AR/Ableton synced

Hello people, hoping someone can help me out here.

The problem I’m having is this:

When Ableton Live is slaved to the AR midiclock (with the EXT button highlighted in the corner of Live) notes on other external midi synths (Moog Slim Phatty and XOXBOX) will not play properly (when playing them from an external midi keyboard). They will play intermittently but then get cut out.

When EXT is turned off in Live the notes play fine…

On the AR I’ve tried many MIDI options including setting all the Track Channels to OFF in the Midi Channels menu.

In the Midi Sync menu only Clock Send is ticked.

Does anyone know why this would be happening? I’ve hit a wall…

Not the answer you’re after, but I’ve never had a good experience slaving Live to midi gear. Doesn’t work well at all. I’d sync the other way round.

I would definitely not use Ableton in slave mode from hardware.
It’s pretty much a recipe for disaster down the line, once you stop slaving it and need to work on the session standalone.

Thanks for the replies.

Tried it with Live as the Master Clock last night and everything worked tightly, so guess that’s the best way to do it unless someone knows something else?

Having Ableton as the Master if that is in your set-up is the only stable option and everything should work as you expect / hope.

no problems here syncs like a charm (given a tiny delay to be expected from live :sob:)

Are you using the usb cable for the AR’s midi?
if not I would recommend doing so
