Can you wear your own band t-shirt?

If I had a choice (and no wife) I would ALWAYS wear my own band T-shirt. Everywhere. Even to bed.

What, now we’re supposed to wear shirts?!?!

I often don’t wear recognizable audio related shirts just so I can avoid an awkward conversation about it.

I don’t think I’ve thought it was wrong to wear your own merch, but… they did make fun of it in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-verse and I laughed. Maybe I judge it more than I think.

I wear a test screen print I did for merch of an album I never released… but yeah I dunno, if it’s like art shirts or like misprints if you DIY them it could be fun. If it’s because you ordered way too many of them it’s also cool as long as you wear them every day of the week.

I’d say its Ok up to a certain point, if the band is small and unsuccessful you can get away with it. If Bono went round wearing U2 merch I’d think him a bit (more) of a wanker.

Where do you print your shirts? (EU)

I want to print a custom shirt for every band I’ve been in…just 1 print of each for myself.

I played sax in the 80’ - 90’s…:face_with_spiral_eyes::partying_face::face_with_peeking_eye:

If it“s your size or larger, you can.

Anyways, since so many people think it“s not really cool, do you think it would be acceptable to wear at home where the DHL guy could maybe see it or even the neighbours when you go to the mailbox?
IĀ“m genuinely curious where youĀ“d draw the line…

I know! This is bullshit!

If you won’t wear your own merch, why should you expect anyone else to?

For one offs, your best bet is those shopping mall printers who print anything. Photos of your kids, your dog on a pillow, whatever.

Keep in mind that volume is the key to get good prices, so printing just one of each is going to cost you.

Printing black (or another dark color) on top of white (or another light color) is the best way to get good results. The machines they use to print one offs absolutely suck at printing over black. To get any decent quality print over black you need to do a 25+ unit print run at a professional printer. Vynil cut solves some of those issues, but it’s also costly for one offs, and the design can’t have too much fine detail. Multicolor designs add a host of other problems, and costs.

Regardless of the colour or size of the run, having a vector source of the image is key, or it will look pixelated and cheap.

One offs also don’t resist to washing like stuff done on a large roller printer, my experience is that after about 10 washes you can start to notice degradation.

Having experience with graphic design tools helps a lot.

Best of luck.

Wow - thank you, this is really useful information. Shame about the difficulties with print on black t-shirts, but it makes sense.

I’ll look into it. Maybe make a batch of each for former bandmates

Or maybe just start s new band. I miss it

Just think about where your going

I would hella wear a Roland Barthes shirt. In fact, I’m about to go search the internet for one. Thank you for a great idea

@schoolbabyboy half of them are wearing jnco shirts though. Not the same as wearing your band’s shirt, more like wearing a Canadian tuxedo. Or perhaps PLUR tuxedo??
