Can you "premute" a track?

I mean as preparing it to mute automatically at the end of the pattern/page cycle.

I would do this in Song mode using the rows and the Mutes per row.

If you have an Analog Rytm, it lets you do this, but not the Digitakt.

HOWEVER! I can think of a few work-arounds. One is to use Song Mode, like Tchu said.

Here’s another work-around (note, this one only works if you’re staying in the same pattern):

Set up a trigless p-lock with 0 Amp Level (or 0 Source/Sample Level) on the very first or last step of the pattern you’re on, so that it gets triggered the next time the sequencer comes around to it.

(If you already have a trig on that step that you don’t want to mess up, you can use the trig right next to it and use microtiming to shift it over).

You could also set this up in advance by giving that p-lock a “FILL” setting in the sequencer page, and then using “FILL” to trigger this pseudo-mute and “NOT FILL” on the normal trigs.

But remember to exit out of “Step” mode before you hit “FILL” or it won’t do anything!

Or if you know the number of times you want the pattern to play before you mute that track, instead of fill you can use the “1:4” or “1:8” or whatever setting in the sequencer page.

Also—I know Song Mode sounds like a pain (it did to me), but with a little bit of practice you can get pretty fast at moving from Pattern Mode into Song Mode and back again.

So once you get good at it, it might not be that hard to go from being in Pattern Mode, and then go into Song Mode, set up the mutes you want in the next row, have it perform those mutes (by going to the next row in your little 2-row Song), and then exit back out of Song Mode again whenever you’re ready to.

One trick I use is to change your trigs to lock trigs on the track you want to “pre-mute” then during a performance you can go into that track and tap the trigs that you want to play. It works best if you want to evolve the track live by adding selectively. For example a bass line that becomes more and more complete as you unlock trigs.

I dont get it, it’s hard for me in text, do you maybe know a video that describes that process ?

You could also achieve this with Conditional Trigs and Probability if you’re on DT II (they are separate Parameters).
