Can you hear drugs in music?

I only started liking them when their music got darker, heavier, and more macho.

Thank you, cocaine. Thank you.

Me neither

That’s awesome!!

I only really listened to them up to Fat of the Land. At this point was it macho cocaine music already, or was it still fluffy MDMA stuff? Sorry I don’t know much about which drugs they took/take, so I’m not sure where the split is.

Drugs are excellent! But thinking they’ll improve creative output is a laugh. And thinking you’ve detected at which points a person is high or not strictly through absorption of their creative output is also a laugh. After reading an interview in which an artist fesses up to sniffing coke or whatever you could say ā€œOMG I hear it!ā€ but you’d never know which moments were conceived or recorded while fucked up or sober or which drug(s) was in play unless that same artist told you directly.

If by macho you mean more influenced by metal, then no, I don’t think it had anything to do with cocaine, it was probably to do with the rock and metal that influenced Liam’s songwriting.

I’d imagine there was a fair bit of cocaine going about early on too, I mean, one of their first tracks was called Charly FFS.

Fish scale only made me wanna tell people about all the fish I caught…

I’m not from the UK. Does ā€œCharlyā€ have some drug meaning?

Anyway, the booklet of the Fat of the Land looks pretty indicative to me. ā€œDo you want butter or guns?ā€

I 100% agree with this. Experienced people can ā€œaccessā€ it without taking anything.

And I think there is bidirectional feedback between music and past (or present) psychedelic insight. Past psychedelic experiences can influence music, just like even listening to music can recall past psychedelic experiences.

It means cocaine.

Indicative of what?

I’ve been listening to a fair amount of melodic and/or trashy rap stuff lately and can hear the influence of codeine, percocet, and xanax, but that’s mostly because they’re usually explicitly mentioned :joy:

Where I come from, most people who are into guns are machos and usually coke users

I don’t think the Prodigy were really into guns. Never saw them explicitly advocating for gun ownership.

That quote from the liner notes should probably best be read as a metaphor, as I’m pretty sure they like a bit of butter on their crumpets in real life.

Me too. I’m admittedly an unabashed, unashamedly macho man.

This is my theme song to prove my masculinity…

Charly says always tell your mummy before going somewhere

What a loony track. I love their earlier stuff

Well, quite a lot of machos are in the closest, or just use their crap to hide their insecurity and fragility. Usually it doesn’t end well.

Exactly.

…what a bold doubt from someone with an avatar name like what gives…

well, bold or not …at least all my favourite sonic heros made their best work under some influence of one kind or the other…same goes for all my sonic collegues i know personally or worked with…

so if i had to verify my bold statement in percentages…i’d say at least 70% of all popular and halfway popular music was created NOT TOTALLY SOBER…

at least a little whiskey or glass of whine is ALWAYS INVOLVED…
if ur a session musician with verified skills and u have to perform from sheet, deliver in a sceduled time frame, that’s more likely to happen sober…
but i think, we’re talking creation process here, not finishing a certified job…

while even the tuttis, that last row in all average orchesters, those who only play in the very loud/emphasized sections of a piece on sheet, tend to have a drink or two before they sit down at their instruments…in small town operas/theateres they’re even completely drunk frequently…i can swear on this…saw it with my own eyes…and could hear it with my own ears… …those who know, they’re doomed to be the tuttis forever, doing this for years and years, they’ve lost all hope and just don’t bother anymore…

and hey, half the worldpopulation is a result of some fluffy moment, from warm hearted to hot passion, that started out because of staying not totally sober…

so what gives U that little relax booster…?

I think you just called me gay. :kissing_heart:

My girlfriend owns more guns than me. I’m confusion…

Wait, you’re right. I’m totes gay and insecure! I love it!
