And then Drew McDowall who joined in the late 90s was an addict as well, so I guess drugs did play a part. From what I understand they were huge ravers and loved to go to clubs, but lived in the countryside so they could concentrate on music more.
I could always tell when my pal had popped a pill - his guitar playing started to soar.
We did a whole album on MDMA and it still makes me very happy to listen to it.
Not sure (edit: about the meaning of the lyric, its very interesting anyway) but i see snowblind as the best anti cocaine song. ( âthe sun no longer sets me freeâ) The one from phuture 2nd.
Kids should listen, learn and not touch that bloody poison.
Also maybe ( absolutely not sure) sweet leaf is ironic about the weed praising.
Well yeah, Vol. 4 was when they changed their drug of choice. You can really hear it from the songs, the sounds and the riffs.
I think Iâm probably better at spotting neurodivergence in music than what drugs people might or might not have been taking.
I think a good songwriter is a good songwriter, whether theyâre doing it high, sober, sleep deprived or whatever gets their muse going. I donât like to say it, because it sucks, but the Flaming Lips write better music when Steven Drozd is using. I think about this a lot, because Iâm deriving pleasure from the fruits of someone elseâs addiction, and that doesnât sit comfortably with me all the time.
All these knobheads (who donât have ADHD) taking Ritalin because they think itâll make them more productive. It doesnât work that way for you. At best youâll achieve about the same result as a couple of cans of redbull. Itâs like someone taking my arthritis medication because they think itâll give them super strength.
If the experiment on the effects to a spiders web are a visual clue here
Stimulants appear to definitely not have a a positive effect, as caffeine looks to be the most messed up

Yeah, Iâm cool with people making music on drugs, but Iâm not sure theyâd be much use at civil engineering.
Whatever works, but based on experience no one makes better music on drugs than sober. I mean you can make cool stuff high, but the actual work of making it a song comes when youâre sober.
reminds me of thisâŚ

Engineering is a lot more civil when everyone is a little baked.
I prefer my engineers poached
People have said my music sounds majorly like that, but fact is:
I never even tried drugs, and never even drank alcohol. Or smoked. Or drank coffee ⌠but I like ice cream
âYou are the perfect drug, the perfect drugâŚâ
Thatâs a very bold statement my dude
Eyehategods entire catalog begs to differ
I know many ppl who think they need to use drugs in order to make their music more interesting. Surely lots of it comes from the death cult mentality of rock and roll. Stuff like âitâs better to burn out than fade awayâ which of course is completely idiotic.
Personally I love making music when tripping and smoking but I definitely wouldnât say that is the best stuff I could come up with.
This being said I do think itâs undeniable that drugs have helped creating most of the interesting music out there. I think itâs more about letting those experiences affect the way you approach making music than thinking youâre only âin the zoneâ when using something.
Ah, EHG to me isnât a just a heroin band, but something much more. I have an EHG tattoo on my arm, hah.
When I listen to the Prodigy albums I think: were they doing a lot of Mdma in the beginning?
Then their music got darker, heavier, more macho, less interesting for me. Is the cocaine to blame?
I need to take drugs to make other peoples spontaneous #dawless techno jams interesting.
