Can I Midi sync my CV chase bliss pedals to analog four tempo?

Hi… I just picked up a disaster transport midi device that supports chase bliss guitar pedals… has a midi in and midi thru…
How do I send the elektron tempo to the pedals? Will it work with ableton already controlling the tempo of elektron or do I have to choose??? I’ve never done midi syncing before. Do I go midi in from device to thru A or B on analog four and midi out from device to in???
I’m new to this whole clocking tempos/clock syncing stuff…
Really want my chorus/vib/tremolo pedals to sync up with analog four timing… seems possible since the Chase bliss pedals have “midi sync” capabilities but unsure how to make this work with elektron syncing…
Thanks!

Do you mean Disaster Area instead of Disaster Transport? Which model of device do you have?

Which Chase Bliss pedals do you have?

Hey Peter-
Yes Disaster Area…
The one with 4 trs control ports ( A B C D) with 2 midi connections. Midi thru/midi in.
warped vinyl hifi and gravitas hifi. Playing guitar with them but hoping to tempo sync the pedals the the elektron bpm…

It really would be helpful to know which model number you have.

The MIDI manual for the Gravitas says that it can respond to MIDI clock messages from an external unit.

So the connections you need are:

  • Analog Four MIDI Out to Disaster Area MIDI In

  • Disaster Area Control Out to Gravitas Tap/MIDI In

Then you need to set the following in the AF’s GLOBAL SETTINGS > MIDI CONFIG menus:

  • set OUT PORT FUNC to “MIDI” in the PORT CONFIG menu

  • set OUTPUT TO to “MIDI”

  • temporarily set ENCODER DEST to “INT”

  • activate Clock Send in SYNC menu

  • temporarily deactivate PRG CH SEND

This should let the pedal receive MIDI Clock messages from the AF.

If that works, we can later see what you’re doing with Ableton Live.

Hey there! Got it to work. And still have my ableton controlling the master tempo… want to use my tremolo as the tempo basically instead of a click because I’ll be working in super fast tempos that the metronome would play back too insane audible wise. My next curiousity is running the Chais bliss pedals as CV with elektron and exploring that. Thanks again!!!

I did that for awhile controlling a Chase Bliss Tonal Recall via CV from my A4. I was controlling the Tonal Recall’s tempo.

Hey there- nice! Wait u did tempo controlling without having to go midi route just with CV/EXP on chase bliss instead of Midi/TAp trs side? Damn. Have you ever gotten the A4 to make the chase bliss pedal sound crazier? I’ve got tempo sorted but I’d like to keep seeing how I can get them to work together in interesting ways via midi or CV. Playing guitar through the pedals. Have some eventide and strymon pedals running as external fx inside of A4.

I had the Tonal Recall (blue knob model) on my vocal pedalboard. The tempo sync via CV worked perfectly. I ended up removing the TR off of my vocal board, as it was too dark sounding. I now have a Strymon Timeline in its place.

I do have a red knob Tonal Recall on my guitar pedalboard though, but I use a little Disaster Area midi controller for presets with set tempos.

Nice! Love the timeline. Well this is all great to know. I’ll try using tap tempo more via CV and see if I can have another use for disaster area midi device elsewhere.
Thanks
