This is my first time trying to back up my A4. I was surprised to find that backing up 1 project (even if it’s really simple: 4 sounds, 1 pattern, 8 bars) took maybe 13 minutes. (The size is 2269k).
I attached a screenshot of C6 with the file, it says it has 128 sounds and 128 patterns. So it backed everything even though its empty?
Is this the way it should run or am I missing something here? If it really is like that then it’s really frustrating.
I’m running C6 on a Mac with OS Sierra and have the older A4.
Does this mean I will have to go through 10+ hours of sitting at the computer to backup 60 projects?
That’s what you asked for of course. But if you’d rather backup specifics that’s also an option.
Just ensure that when the A4 is connected you’re in USB mode only and having OB mode off is probably simplest. Ensure that the selection defaults to A4 when you boot C6 in which case it will negotiate the faster connection, if you start messing with turbo etc it will possibly reduce the midi rate by 10x (it would for DIN at any rate) … i.e. it’s finicky , set it up, close it, open again (touch nothing on settings) and do your thing … this has never let me down … ymmv
IMHO individual saves are much more flexible, but you need to be more pro-active and backup periodically … especially anything you’d miss if you bricked it
As maligned as it seemingly is, there is little better than C6 and the on-device backup options imho, it’s all there, you just need to put in the effort
Remember
the device port should be set to USB midi only, not USB+DIN as forcing the dump through the DIN will obviously throttle it … it obviously cannot support the rate the USB connection is capable of, so it would be slowed to suit DIN midi rates (or Elektron’s 10x custom ‘midi’ rate)
