Hi All!
Buying a used Digitakt and was wondering what I should check for when testing it? Cosmetically I guess I know what to look for… but functionally… what should I test? Any advice appreciated!
Cheers!

The DT is built like a tank, to be fair.
The only genuinely fragile parts are the encoders. Check that they’re all smooth and easy to turn - I remember reading something about a user who managed to slightly bend one of them.
The buttons might stick but I think that’s just a temporary issue until the unit is ‘broken in’. One of the trig keys on my unit used to catch a little but that’s disappeared completely over time.
As with all gear, check the inputs and outputs to make sure nothing has been yanked out and caused obvious damage.
Other than that, I think you’re good to go.
Check if the encoders are smooth to operate. It is a common problem that they can become slow or “sticky”.
Check the button labels, I think there were a number of units with two “YES” buttons, for example. That might affect resale value down the line.
you guys are champs thanks so much for the responses!
@lemons how do i check that? (Elektron newb here).
The person is kinda trolling I guess. Overbridge isn’t available yet for the dt, its sort of a thing…
Hold function when powering up to boot in test mode, test every button and knobs.
Only thing i would check is original receipt, as it will be covered by waranty for a long time anyway…
Mine had a faulty PSU, so give that a few shakes and a knock or two.
When I did that to the first one the power cut off and on.
And ask them to un-register it on Elektron, so you can.
Access the early startup menu by holding FUNC (yellow button) and powering on the Digitakt
Choose “Test Mode” and press all keys/encoders to see if they are all working flawlessly
Thanks again for all the advice all! Just got it… everything was perfect! Looks barely used!
Now to get my head around it…
This was already hinted at and it might not matter now that you got it, but the buttons sticking issue I guess is from the board underneath not being properly aligned with the faceplate or something like that. I have one button on mine that “kind of” sticks or grinds at least if I hit it from an angle, but it’s not enough of an annoyance to do anything about, especially now that I know it’s just from the plastic rubbing on the metal frame and not something more serious in the mechanism.
So yeah, prolly doesn’t matter now since you already got it but still something to be aware of in case you hit a button at an angle or something and notice some sticking
