Buying a second hand unit

There is a great deal near me for a second hand Digitakt, anything I need to look out for?

Have never put my hands on a digitakt, so I will be the first time I have used one.

Not really, they should all be in warranty still, and most of the issues reported are software related. Obviously check cosmetic condition is good, screen is OK, check for sticky trig buttons (although fixing this is usually pretty easy), and make sure the encoders feel good and aren’t jumpy.

Hold [Func] when starting the Digitakt and then press [Trig 1] which starts the test mode. There you can see if any errors are reported. Also you can check if all encoders work good, and if the lights and the screen have any problems.

Be careful when booting in test mode because there will also be a test sound, so don’t put your speakers or headphones on a high level.

Thanks.

Claims he never used it, still in the package. Date on the box looks like December 2017 manufacturer date.

I’ll check the os.

Check the hardware first, make sure the buttons dont stick and the encoders are not loose (they should also click down). The OS can be updated by yourself.

Yeah - updating the OS is easy and painless. Make it the first thing you do when/if you bring it home. I’d check to make sure all the trig keys have appropriate caps on them. There were reports in the early days of having two “7’s” or two “yes” keys instead of “yes” and “no”. Other than that, check the encoders and the volume knob. It’s built like a soviet tank, so there isn’t much to worry about, especially if it looks unused.

Make sure you have the original receipt as this will make warranty claims a lot easier. You may be covered by the retailer and this might be the easier option in the event of problems. It will also help if you need to go direct to Elektron.
