Hello
I am using one Flex track and one Thru track. I have the flex assigned to track one buffer one, the thru track is assigned to inputs A B. I am Midi syncing out to Syntakt or Digitakt ii or Digitione. I am doing one shot quantized 16 length trigs.
My record settings seem fine, no problem getting samples into the OctaMKII. I have dynamic recorders and quick record enabled.
However, playing back the recording of the buffer/flex, they just dissapear. They run fine for short time, sometimes only a minute, sometimes a few. Sometimes it is preceded by a static distortion, a glitchy loop, or stutter. Tried different tracks, same thing.
There are not changes in any settings, no other samples, nor do I shut off the Octatrack. This can happen mid playback, or after I stop and press play again, its gone.
There is only one playback trig, I have even tried removing the yellow one shot in the Record 1 to make sure it’s not reactivating. Does not make a difference.
If someone could please help- that’d be great! I am still in my 30 day return window and am trying to see if it’s defective or user error
Thansk
Try a fresh project (to find out if the behavior is specific to the current project, I mean).
I assume that it is, but good to confirm.

+1 On new project.
What about incoming midi?

Yes, I have started over multiple times. I have a template with my record settings. The original one I started from was the Presets from the factory card. I have tried a differnt card as well.
Glad someone is on here! Elektron support is on vacation right now.
I would try without the template. Create a new project, if you have not already.
Don’t rebuild your track, just test the functionality.

My midi settings is midi out from Octa, clock, transport, pattern change to any of the three Takt boxes (one in use only), which are set to the opposite. No midi in to Octat.
Sorry for my ignorance, but what did you mean +1?
+1 just means I second what he wrote.
Try a complete new blank project. Octatrack is usually very reliable, but once in a while there might be some weird glitch that seems to be tied to a specific project.
Sometimes it can help to save the project as new. Not sure why, maybe because it forces the OT to write data again and in the process correct corrupted data…

Sorry not to clarify, but my template was from “create new project.” I would save as new when I got something that works. But I see what you guys are saying, maybe the original template from the new project is being saved with every “save as” after that.
I will try that when I get home from work.
I literally just opened this account and the fact both of you replied is so great! I’ve been watching nothing but Octatrack videos, so really want to learn and keep the device.

And as I said, Elektron support states they are on vacation on their site and the endless Youtube vids and google searches do not address this issue
We´re always happy to help.
And Octa is really great and it´s actually quite reliable. I think I had like maybe 3 or 4 glitches in six years or so, but some users unfortunately had to get their Octatrack repaired or replaced. There was also a batch of cards that caused issues.
Ok, so you already did create a new project and the error was still happening… I´d still recommend to create a new project and just check if the buffer is still erasing itself. So don´t do anything else, just go from a blank project and test that. Let´s hope it was some rogue recorder trig that somehow ended up getting copied onto the track.

Schnork is a good person to give advice about the OT.
I hope you get it worked out, I understand you’re on a bit of a time crunch to resolve or return the OT so with any luck, it’s just a corrupt project setting or something.
A bricked device would behave quite a bit differently in my opinion, but you never know.
Anyways, good luck and welcome to the forum.

Thanks- after the whole weekend trying, its nice to know I can have feedback.
The card that came with it was the black 32gb one. I did upgrade to a 64gb, but I believe this also happened when I was testing it on the original card, but not 100% certain.
Would you recommend trying your suggestions on the original card instead?
Is the new card a Sandisk? If so, I’m sure that it’s fine. Kingston is probably ok as well, but they are picky about the cards.
If it has the original card with the OT logo on it, I think that those are known to have issues.
Yes
SanDisk 64GB Extreme CompactFlash Memory Card UDMA 7 Speed Up To 120MB/s - SDCFXSB-064G-G46
If I recall correctly some users had issues with specific cards that were gone when using a different one, so yeah, try the original card. Be careful not to bend any pins when changing cards and maybe do a backup of the cards if you have important stuff there.
If we can´t solve it and you´re approaching the end of the 30 days return period, I´d just return it and get another one. That´s probably the safest bet with Elektron support on vacation.
Thanks @shigginpit

DON’T PANIC!

More often that I would have liked, I have found that the error I had encountered came from me.
Either because I was ignorant, or thinking I knew but weren’t, or having left a trig in a recording track
The OT tends to let you make mistakes, that’s how it is.
So don’t sweat on this too much, and try to understand what is going on: that’s how I learned to operate this tricky joker.
This community likes a good riddle, be patient and we’ll get to the end of this.

Perfect. You could also upload one of the projects where you encountered the error and we could have a look. Maybe we can spot something.
Btw, I´ve had this happen before. It was always a recorder trig that got copied to the next page and the recorder was recording silence. Probably because I had “Auto copy pages” on.
There´s so much going on in the Octatrack, easy to miss some trig somewhere.
Ha! I very much hoping and suspect user error and not the rare hardware error. Its just at this point, I wouldn’t even know the difference
But really willing to put the work in to move foward!

Hey all
I did your suggestions and seems you were all spot on. New project. Trigs in a recording track.
It seems disabling stop stop arm also had something to do with it.
If you have a Syntakt or Analog Rhytm, you know you often have to press stop a bunch to get the low hum to stop.
So I think it was rearming the one shot even after manually removing it.
It did happen a couple other times, but I could not recreate it. Each time it was buffer was playing and I entered another menu then exitied.
I don’t want to jinx myself, but hopefully it’s one big step towards fixing a rookie problem
Thanks again
(I do have an issue after running some hardware tests with the Octa and Syntakt)
Would people prefer for this and future posts, to start a new thread?
