my BT always clicks when triggered. the only way i can get around it is shaving off the click with a small amp envelope attack. but this isnt reliable and i still get clicks when doing rapid successive hits because the amp env does not retrig (by design). also in order to get the amp env to trig on hit, i have to lower the hold and decay values which kills some of the nice long boomy decay i am going for.
is this normal or do i have a defective unit? i couldnt find any threads about this specifically but lots of threads about defective BT behavior.
if it is normal, any workarounds? just looking for a nice clean 808ish kick out of the BT. and yes i know the BD track is quite nice, i use it quite a lot. i would just like to use the BT for something other than basslines… as it is, the only kick i can get out of it without the nasty click is a very short one. a click can be nice on a kick but it really sticks out like a sore thumb against the nice, round, pinged filter sound of the BT.
I absolutely hate Elektron envelopes which is of course really strange since the majority of my setup is Elektron But still they are just not nearly as nice as other synths, they are fiddly to get right and to my ears never seem quite right… Sorry I have nothing else to add…
thanks for the input. I am aware of the SNP param, it adds a very nice punch that can almost cover up the nasty click, but when dialed to zero the click is most audible!
hmm… are you using the master distortion? is SYM on the master dist page at any other value than exactly 12 o clock (0)? Conpressor is off (100% dry)?
Can you post a sysex dump of your kit & pattn for someone to check? My rytm is not with me ATM but maybe someone else could take a looksie
EDIT: one more thing… are you using overdrive? I never use overdrive with the BT so I forgot if it messes with the BT sound or not… my experiences with overdriving the BT have been unsatisfactory for my tastes
thanks for the involved reply. no master dist, symmetry, overdrive, but the compressor was engaged at half mix with the fastest attack, which was making the click much worse! after turning off comp the click is still there with 0 snap, but it is easily covered by any snap value 1-3. much more workable. I feel stupid for forgetting the comp settings on this kit.
I would be happy to post a sysex dump later when I have the time!
Oops well I’ve had that problem with certain rytm channels on the first trig clicking and it might be part of your pattern or volume levels, try sending the BT out to your mixer or daw by itself and see if it still clicks…
Try starting a new project and synthesize the same bass Tom and see if the clicking persists , if not it’s something in your current project causing the clicking.
Get the filter self resonating, then dial back the frequency of the filter to the right tone, then bring in the BT machine and overdrive the pair, using a downward curving (sorry brainfreeze) LFO triggered by each trig key to close the decay time logarithmically, then you can get a reasonable kick with a smooth decay as tight or long as you want. You can also tweak the amount of filter env and the filter ADSR to better shape things
