Browser-native SysEx backups with real-time patch name parsing for vintage synths (DX7, Juno-106, M1, Jupiter-6, CZ-101)

Hey Elektronauts,

I wanted to share a browser-native cloud librarian I've been building to replace clunky, legacy desktop SysEx software: knob.monster.

It runs directly in Chrome/Edge/Brave using the Web MIDI API, no drivers, installations, or OS compatibility issues.

Key Features:

  • Real-Time Name Parsing: Automatically extracts and decodes ASCII names from raw binary patch dumps (DX7, Korg M1) to index your vaults in real-time.
  • Pacing Calibration: Prevents buffer overflows on 1980s 8-bit microprocessors by introducing dynamic millisecond delays between packet streams.
  • Cloud-Sync: Access, search, and recall your patch vault from any device.

Note: Web MIDI is Chromium-only for now (Firefox/Safari block it), and cheap, optocoupler-less USB-MIDI cables will still drop bytes over 100-byte payloads.

You can test your interface connection and run the MIDI scanner on the homepage without registering: knob.monster.

Would love to hear if it plays nicely with your interfaces and current rig setups!
