Brand new Rytm is wobbling - is this normal or warranting an exchange? Experiences please!

Hello fellow Elektronauts!

After loving my Digitone for a while, today I got myself a brand new Analog Rytm!

But after unboxing and putting it on my desk, I noticed that the unit wobbles :frowning: I posted a video of it on reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/Elektron/comments/r3ivqf/brand_new_rytm_is_wobbling_is_that_normal) and got a few responses from people saying their unit wobbles too!

Now, this really kinda sucks on a drum machine that’s meant to be played. I can put something under it, but if I wanna take it somewhere I will always have to think about this.

I am curious now, before I go back to the store on monday to ask for an exchange - how has it been for you guys? Is there anyone whose unit does NOT wobble? Is this normal and I just have to deal with it? Or are there just a few models out there that slipped quality control and I should get a replacement unit? Kind of a letdown on a machine that expensive.

Curious about your experiences!

Try loosening the screws underneath a little. It’s not unusual for folded metal enclosures to buckle ever so slightly due to tiny intolerances between screw and thread locations. Then gradually tighten each a little in turn until they’re tight enough. Might sort it easily enough. There’s no guarantee a replacement won’t have the same issue.

Yes I have this issue but it depends from the surface

I wrote Elektron some time ago and they told me that this is normal and it is due to the metal chassis- they told me to put the machine on the corner of a table and push hard the edge to bend it on the other side

mine does that too, I haven’t tried bending it though, I use a guitar pick underneath

Thanks a lot, will try this out tomorrow!! (night time here )

Edit: Oh wow, it’s really common then. Thanks Riuozami, saved me the correspondence! I’ll have a go at screwing and bending then tomorrow, haha! (Hope my wife doesn’t read this )

This is very common, even with Behringer synths.

Geometry: Three non-collinear points defines a plane. The fourth point has a really good chance to not be in that same plane. Think of tables and chairs.

Shims will work too.

These units were all supposed to be released as part of elektron’s Bröstep campaign to celebrate a new firmware for the AR that unlocks a bass synth machine with 3 LFOs in the AR. Sadly the firmware was shelved for unknown reasons but the enclosures had already been manufactured.

Thanks again everyone!

And to not leave this thread as a party pooper: I just fired up the unit, went through a Youtube tutorial with it, and what can I say… THIS THING IS FUN!!! Such a great purchase, I can already tell! Goodbye DAW sampler, the AR is my new default drummie! <3

Do they use these in China? I thought Elektron gear was made in Sweden

On a serious note mate if your paying top money for a bit of gear you’d at least think it’d be level lol

Maybe this will be addressed in a future OS update.

These are the instructions they gave me:

  • Put the rubber foot in one of the top corners and the rubber foot in the opposite bottom corner on the edge of a table.
  • Use your hands to apply pressure to the unit on top of the other two corners (those that are opposite of the corners which are touching the edge of the table).
  • You need to use a certain amount of force, but not to the point where it feels like you may damage the unit.

This will even out the chassis. If you need further assistance, please let us know.
