so I got the Boss Dr. Sample SP-303 plugged the Rytm into it, and I knew immediately what I had been missing since the MD left.
.,
.
now, which FX unit might be (substantially) better than the BOSS ? … I actually do not care that much about sampling
ahh,… thanks for that… I must say the sound and quality of the 303 is phenomenal imho …
unfortunately got the mother32 and the boss303 at the same time… only 1 toy at a time right ?
i only wanted to use the Vinyl FX, becaues I heard Wissam jam, and he used it a lot, fell in love…so I figured I get the same, and become as awesome as Wissam (user here in the forum)
.
just routed the AR through the unit, and BAAANG , instant more love for the AR !!! …
.
.
i gotta spend more time I suppose, was just wondering if anybody said: if you like the sp303 you will love product XXX … not happened yet, so I guess i have a proper toy on my hand…
.
.
also I liked the sherman fb2, but was too confusing for me while I had it, and everything became gabber and trash after 3 minutes
Those, plus my AR and some pedals, is what I’m thinking for my compact live setup. Throw pads/atmospheres/samples/loops into the 303. What do people think about using it that way?
On that note, by recommendation from people in this thread I got a Korg Electribe ER-1 (Mark 1 version) recently, and I just love it.
This afternoon I played my Serge modular system though the audio inputs (stereo, mind you) of the ER-1 and processed the audio through the step sequencer and applied some ‘tempo delay’. Gosh, that was fun. I’m really glad I gave it a try.[/quote]
yeah, korgEA1 great little piece of silky satisfying play box. had it once
I’m not sure if the Model:Samples can sample directly at all actually. In that case, if it’s between the two, an SP would be my choice (for live sampling and chopping). That said though, Roland’s SP series devices are super awkward when it comes to chopping / trimming samples.
The MPC One would be superior for this use case, though maybe not as fun as the other two due to the touchscreen workflow
Yeah you are right, Model Sample doesn’t have any Input, so bad thing that we have to transfer the samples from computer…
But I mean after the transfer, Model Sample looks to have lots of twickable knobs, lfo’s, nice effect, and the nice midi syncing…
2 hand price SP303 = new price of the model sample…
Sp-303 is a lot about sampling and resampling with its characteristic effects, smashing pads (not velocity sensitive) and that kind of “unquantized” groove.
It has a sequencer too but it’s a joke compared to an Elektron one.
It can sample directly via its inputs (in stereo too) but its memory is stored into obsolete smartmedia cards.
M:S is a sample based 6 track groovebox with a great sequencer and (almost?) one knob per function.
You can load samples (only mono, not stereo) via usb.
It can be battery powered so it’s much more portable.
Which is better for you it depends from your user case.
