Boss RC-505 MK2 Loopstation

What happens when you stop loop playback? Does the sound just ”kachunk* and get cutoff or is there programmable decay/fadeout?

I’m close to having all my pennies together to purchase one as I’ve been loving Loopy Pro. It has piles of great features and that is one I really appreciate.

You can program it to do damn near anything fam. It will trails. It will kachunk. It is up to you. You just have to figure out all it’s many quirks. Are there better live loopers? Yes, the Rang3. Is there a more fun and engaging loop station? Not IMO. Loopy Pro is dope but hardware loop stations for the win.

@d4ydream and @Groof, the pleasure is mine. My cup overfloweth. Cheers!

Very much sold on the RC505MKII. I’m just using Loopy Pro as a test case. I’ve never done looping before and I wanted to make sure it provides what I need. It does :). I feel like I’m actually performing on my modular rather than just patching and guiding things along.

Just getting the scratch together to buy one. Until then, Loopy fills the gap very nicely!

@Funk_Illuminati Thanks for taking the time to share your setup :muscle: Have you had time to dive deep into / are you liking the new LoFi-12? It looks pretty!

It has blown my mind wide open. The most innovative sampler ever made (aside from the beloved Octatrack and Digitakt) but $239. Kudos to Sonicware. This is a magickal machine. All of you should give them your money right now! Well, if your cup overfloweth that is. Otherwise, trade something for it!

Like, I can’t recommend it highly enough. I’ve just been messing about with the demo songs and it is amazing. Floored.

Exactly!

I will do a more thorough write up in the appropriate thread.

I had the mk1 some years ago and i wonder how reliable the mk2 works. Mk1 had some problems when midi slaved and i read the mk2 is behaving similar. When the mk1 was the midi master all worked fine for me.
But i also read that the mk2 sometimes freezes suddenly.
What do you think? Is it reliable enough? I don’t want to use it live, only in the studio. But i don’t want to have it crashing on me every other day.

Any good deals for the US? I find that better deals exist in Europe but Distributor agreements mean that Thomann etc refuse to ship Boss items.

Bug Help! My microphone 2 desaperds from my mixer on my Rc-505 MKII and now the enter of mic 1 going out on left and mic 2 Coming out on right side ! The bug appeared after disconnected my usb câble by putting the storage on… Does anyone got that problème to ? Cause now I can’t adjust my microphones differently are have my voice center…

I don’t currently have access to an RC-505 MKII, but it sounds as though you’ve (accidentally) changed the channel input settings from dual-mono to stereo.

Look for a parameter called “stereo link”.

Cheers!

What about bugs today ?
Still 1.21 Firmware ?

With 4 (each pair can be stereo linked) line level inputs, main out + 4 additional outs / 2 pairs, input fx, track fx, master fx and five looper tracks, the 505 mk2 probably works well for a small setup replacing mixer and effects.
Anyone using it like that, maybe with an additional reverb or multi fx?

I thought about getting one for my Rytm, Octatrack and modular jam setup.
Input fx make are perfect for transitions (high pass filter on a big knob for drums), looper tracks especially useful for the modular.
It has eq (low, low mid, high mid, high) for all inputs, I think even for the individual outputs?), master compressor, master reverb…

Edit, could even load some loops, textures, backing tracks etc. onto one of the tracks and send it through one of the sub outputs.
Combine the 505 mk2 with a small mixer if send effects or side chain compression are needed. Still a very compact and most important very playable setup.

Question for the RC505 mk2 owners - is it possible to load/save loops on this thing and use them during a performance? If you can, are the loops saved to a memory slot or can you change them in a track slot during performance? For example, say I want to use the RC-505 for backing tracks that I improvise over. I fill up some slots with loops I make on the fly then I want to trigger a new backing track whilst those new loops play. Is this possible or do I have to load a new memory (and hence the recorded loops will stop)?

Loops are saved to the internal programs, five per program. There’s no file structure for loading and saving them individually outside that. That said, it’s an easy matter to have some programs prepared with loops already in and some tracks free to add new stuff. When I used to gig my Mk1 I had my sequencer select them via MIDI program changes, making it (relatively) slick. These days I’d use a BlackBox for the same role as it does allow you to load stuff in and out pretty smoothly, plus you have 16 recordings instantly available rather than five.

Hey Everyone, I’ve been struggling to figure something out with my 505 mk2 and would love ideas if anyone knows the solution. Thanks in advance for considering! I’ve just started utilizing the individual outputs and the challenge is that I have not figured out how to have the sound coming through the 505 just once while creating the loop. It comes through the individual outs and it seems it’s also sending though a signal to be monitored. The result is that while I create the loop monitoring at the mixer, the volume is much higher than what it is when I play back the loop. Due to the complexity of my set up, and the need for cueing other gear etc, monitoring at the 505 is not a solution.
