Gaz’s take on it
would need 16 channels minimum (20 would be better). but like the form factor and SD recording
“Audio Streaming Mixer”
Do you do live streams on Youtube, Glitch or whatever multiple times a month? If no, prob not for you.
No individual mixes for the 4 headphone outs, Gaz says.
I personally thought the new Rodecaster Pro2 looked a bit more interesting than the Boss for a device that you could bend away from its main purpose to a small synth setup.
Needs a non-podcaster to take a punt and do a workflow video.
no I don’t live stream on Ytube, I’d use it as a sample mangler, would send each of it’s 4 headphone outs to different sampler inputs to sample from… also looking for something to replace my model 12 for traveling as it gets a bit heavy to drag around.
yeah but he said 4 different EQ’s is possible and is inclined to believe that sep mixes is on the way, once and if they do implement those individual mixes it might be nice for collaboration on my travels as well
btw Gaz is hilarious and always sample worthy
Haven’t checked that one out, is it smaller/lighter?
You don’t think it’s a higher end processor than the typical gamer unit, I’m not a gamer so I guess I’m not so familiar but he referred to it as being of an higher end?
I concur
If I were you, I would not buy something that is missing a feature that I need, but “is on the way” according to an influencer.
I have been burned this way enough times.
That said I am not you…
Sound advice for sure, but what I use right now for sending out sample material to multiple samplers is a mackie big knob, and I’m generally sampling the same signal by different samplers so that particular omission is not my primary use/ deal breaker but I do think it’s an obvious minus for collating with others… though in my case samplers come first
Consolidating my comments into this one post:
This is clearly not for DAWLess folks, given how few inputs it has. The 4 headphone outs are potentially interesting. At $800 at Sweetwater, I personally would probably pay the extra bucks for the much smaller TE TX-6, if I needed something like this.
The video is what it is: clearly not targeted at me.
Nah, it’s probably slightly bigger I reckon. It does have better i/o though, dual USB interfaces (one is limited though). Dunno, I haven’t spent much time looking at them and won’t be getting one, was just my initial impression that the Rode had a more flexible set of features.
Fair enough.
In my area we are kind of spoiled in that we have access to a brick and mortar store with a good return policy. I have a buddy who buys and returns synths/samplers all the time within the return period - although he does eventually spend enough money that they tolerate his frequent buy-and-returns… and he brings in enough additional business (eg… uhh… me and my own spending).
If my other buddy wanted to do another ambient synth jam at my place again, and he was up for livestreaming our jam, I’d have a use for this thing. Except we’d then have some extra prep to do like figure out how we want to present ourselves - like do we wear funny hats, painted helmets like Daft Punk or whatever, etc.
his communication style is an acquired taste at times but I enjoy his quirkiness and am inclined to give him the benefit of doubt more oft than not, but then again he’s a great source for sample fodder so I’m biased at best
I used to return a lot of things and feel no qualms about it as without a doubt there is no better way to learn about a piece of kit besides real world usage, and at the local guitar centers where I used to shop instead of answering questions the sales people would just tell me to take it home and try it out in stead of try to school me on it
GC might be in my past these days but getting hands on is still the best
ah crap I finished my edit to my previous post too late, lol
I might as well cave in and try out that T.E. Mixer, I wonder if it works with the mpc for I/o expansion, haven’t seen any clips of anyone using it that way yet, but for portability you can’t beat it, for some reason the Blue box just doesn’t move me
From time to time I think of upgrading my cheap behringer mixer to something better, especially because it gives me unwanted noise. Now i discovered this one here and I am really tempted with that price (299€). still noone with good/bad experiences with synths/drum machines?
Got one of these at a good price and am going to try using it as my main vocal processor and simple mixer for live shows. Aside from my vocal I’ll put my A4 + AR2 + Octatrack through it.
Using it with the editor today I’m pleased to see that it responds over MIDI but I cannot figure out if it will sync to MIDI Clock. While not a dealbreaker it would be nice.
I have tried to change the BPM of some of the delay FX in the editor but my edits don’t seem to have any impact on the Gigcaster: I can see the BPM edit change on the software editor but on the Gigcaster the screen does not show any BPM indicator nor does the delay effect change tempo.
Any suggestions on what I’m missing there?
