What’s the exact height of the DM-101 without the knobs? (but with the metal plate and screws)
Someone told me 3.5cm but I’m hoping he’s off by a millimeter as I got about 3.4cm space to work with.

What do you guys think would be the better delay for hands on sound design fun, the DM-101 or the RE-202?
The Vongon Polyphrase.
Yeah, that one looks so, so good. Definitely in the running.
There’s also the Walrus Audio Meraki now which is has stereo in and out.
Glou Glou Flancher makes two stereo analog delays with lots of mods.
Strymon Volante or UAFX Galaxy
fwiw, I really like the RE-202. sold my RE-201 when I bought it and I have no complaints. if you like the Space Echo sound, I highly recommend it. you get the sound but not the hassle and expense of the real deal.
No MIDI though.
“No MIDI” also applies to all UAFX pedals. From this point of view, Volante and El Cap are among the few alternatives to the Boss RE-202.
For usage with synths, it might be relevant to point out that RE-202 does not allow stereo panning of the play heads, unlike Volante. AFAIR DM-101 has a mono input, unlike the Strymon pedals. Furthermore, with DM-101, you have to tame any line level before the signal enters the pedal to minimise any signal distortion - Strymon pedals have a line/instrument switch. Given your former usage of RE-201, these may not be real issues for you.
You might also want to further specify “hands on sound design fun” because there are plenty of other capable hands-on delay pedals on the market.
Not a sound nerd whatsoever but can say that this one works really well with synths/line level and sounds gorgeous. And it’s comparatively cheap and small.
You get a lot of variety of tape and analogue delay on it and lots of character. It doesn’t have MIDI but for that kind of sound I prefer tapping in the tempo so that it’s imperfect. Only downside imo is that the mix knob doesn’t cover its whole range, as soon as you hit 50 percent, it’s fully wet.
I think its real downside is the app via bluetooth requirement, though Galaxy may not depend as much on the app than other UAFX pedals. As for the Mix range, it’s the same with all of them: 0-50% and then full wet. On the Volante, there is not even a Mix range knob.
Didn’t know that! As for the app: it’s only needed to give you more algos than it shipped with, isn’t it? So it’s basical just nice to have but already a great pedal without.
the Volante is like the Space Echo where there’s one knob for reverb volume and one for echo volume. those are your mix controls.
personally I didn’t love the Volante. it was more complicated than I wanted it to be. and I hate that Strymon always has hidden controls.
Actually, I don’t see a Mix knob on the Galaxy either, unless you mean Echo volume or level? On the Volante, there is a kill dry start mode, so that you can mix through a mixer.
As for Galaxy’s app, you need it if you want presets, to switch between true / buffered bypass, or to alternate between performance / tap tempo foot-switch functions.
I’ve also had my eye on the Volante.
I think this is a deal-breaker for me. I don’t want to hassle with that.
It needn’t be, for there is a passive little helper:
yeah I have a Radial re-amp box for this problem. mainly because I have a crippling Chase Bliss addiction and they don’t handle this well either. also because I owned a vintage Space Echo that was even worse.
so it wouldn’t change my decision on the DM-101. but yeah it does add an extra layer to have to buy/setup/cable/power/etc.
