Iam also thinking about it. It would mean a massive downsizing for me, replace a bigger mixer.
I always use groups also as sends, and the SL got 2 of them, so with the 2 fx sends there are 4, with the convienence to got them all in stereo and leave the clumsy „i got to use 2 mono faders for stereo“ behind.
The SL seems to be a good concept and fill the void of some usecases of mixers. I only feel like a lo-cut switch for the chanels would be nice especially for the 8 chanel where you can put in a mic. And i dont know what to feel about that the EQs are not tilt as usual by raising the opposite instead of only cutting lows or highs (thats the description i found online).
Well if your set up is DT2/DN2 /OT Using the OT as mixer then maybe this is not the best choice for you, but there are several other cases where this mixer will be a game changer, specially for those of us who use dfferent pieces of gear and need a better portable multitrack mixer solution that the ones available now, for example. the AR is a hell of a drum machine, but in order to make the best of it you need to take advantage of the independent outputs besides the master out, the Xcelon will be a perfect solution way more effective and portable than a standard multitrack mixer, not to mention any dj mixer, personally I already have a well defined routing setup around the Xcelon that will scale down footprint, improve portability and basically make everything easier and way more effective
So, there’s the Bebe Cherie, Jellymix and now, Xcelon SL to consider as a live performance mixer. I’m guessing the Xcelon will be the priciest of the lot. It’s coming to an Octatrack price range from all the guesses, and although the OT is not built as a peformance mixer, but it sure can function as one and more. Hard choices to make!

And the Roland MX-1. An oldie but goldie. Am thinking of hooking my Perkons and S4 into a small, minimal live setup. Am on the same Surgeon’s school of thought when it comes to equipment. Less is more.
The mixer really is the sound of the record since most people just master the 2 track mix. So to me its worth getting something performative and analog. Which is probably jellymix or boredbrain for me. Ive been using old mackies forever and they actually sound great for dance tracks. But it will be awesome to have new options. The jellymix sure can do a lot for being so small.
Something about the summing of some good hardware. It just adds a sound and vibe that i never can get in the daw.
I agree an analog summing mixer really changes the final output. I have a TX-6, and although very useful and lots of features but somehow the tonality is missing a certain sizzle. Running the Perkons through it is the harshest. It just sounds even more cold and lacking the gain and warmth. Maybe I’m not getting the settings right on the Perkons. Jellymix sold out. But that seems to be the more affordable and balanced choice. Xcelon looks like it’s gonna be another high 1500’s investment!
I went with the Jellymix. Would love the Xcelon SL but the price is just too high for me for now. Jellymix seems like a good balance of price and features, although I find it odd the headphone’s Mute state does not have the mix from Main option. I’d use it to cue in the mix, or balance stuff before bringing it into the Main mix. Oh well, can’t have it all.
Would remind everyone that analog mixers are aplenty on local classifieds, often for mad cheap.
I’d love one of these xcelons (have had the euro one and its f’ing awesome) but frankly need 4 sends at the minimum. Maybe one day there will be an XXL-celon.
Though, I would add that the direct outs does make additional sends possible with the addition of any matrix mixer, really.
People are excited for this because they’re aware that there are cheap mixers on Craigslist, but ones that are in good shape and less clunky and sound good and have a ton of sends and aren’t omnipresent, which is why this and the Jellymix are fitting a need less served.
They added a couple of pretty nice upgrades. Presales should be up before superbooth, so in a week or two we will know more and be able to pre-order!

Usually we are very prompt with communication and hold to our scheduled plans. In this case however, we moved to a new location in March (!) and also hosted our EMIXX event among other things.
But the real time setback was the improvements I’ve been working on to the Xcelon SL itself. The compressor circuit was revised extensively, and tweaked to sound much more punchy and effective. The drive mode now tracks nicely with the clean gain setting and comes on smooth. I also added a VCA circuit to the FX returns and their own SC RCV switch so the returns can be ducked by the master sidechain signal like the other channels. I replaced the VCA-based mute circuit with a newly designed FET-based soft mute circuit for more tweakable response (and I needed the VCA for the compressor!). The power section was also updated for improved efficiency overall (less heat too), and many other little tweaks were made throughout including UI improvements.
We will have two final Xcelon SL units at our table to demo at Superbooth in a few weeks. Come and see us!
