Black Corporation - ISE-NIN (Jupiter 8 replica)

Nice! I’ve heard some of the cards can fall out of the ddrm and cause damage when it is being moved and shipped and it looks like maybe the diy version of this guy is the same… I think some people printed out 3D supports for the cards or something. You might want to look into this so nothing bad ever happens to your baby!

That’s amazing dude. Great work.

I may have seen that, but will check it out again. Always like his videos.

I’m someone that is quite ok with “close enough” when it comes to something like this. When dealing with different circuits, different age of circuits, different conditions of the gear, etc. there will ALWAYS be some small differences. However, a quality instrument is a quality instrument.

Unless there is some glaring deficiency that would drastically change the nuances of the sound, and unless you’re a collector of fine vintage instruments, (to hell with the price) the choice should be pretty simple.

I love the sound of the J8, but it’s just not a synth that’s ever screamed to me “you must acquire me at any price!!”

Now the Oberheim Xpander, Jupiter 6, MKS-80 are among some of the vintage ones that DO speak to me like that. I just choose to ignore it. I would love to have any of those, but as much as I like to BUILD synths, I hate REPAIRING, RECAPPING, etc. I don’t know precisely where and why my silly brain draws the line there, and makes that distinction, but…

In generally I’d always take the modern synth over the vintage. I’d rather have Deckard or ISE over their counterparts, as cool as those counterparts are.

Now cars… I’d rather have the older ones. I think my current one is the newest one that I’ve ever owned and it’s a '99. (I get my wife new cars.)

I design all of my boards to use through hole discrete components, but all ICs and decoupling caps are SOIC / 0805. It goes REALLY fast that way.

I use such a wide variety of resistor values though, (for example) that I think it’s easier to pick them from labeled/sectioned containers than from spools.

I don’t mind a few through holes of each value. It’s when you’re installing 120 of the same value that surface mount speeds things up.

I even made a manual pick and place machine with a fish pump and a foot switch to place parts quickly.

Okay so, I found the time to go through the filter resonance and crossmod calibrations tonight.
One part of that is manually tuning the gains on each filter. After the tuning things sound even better somehow

Now I need a little time with it and I’ll record something to share.

It’s Mr. Nasty time.

How hot did you run your iron on the project assembly?

Oh yes, yes it is. Let’s say I’ve touched every part, inside and out (because I really did).

700F most of the time. Let’s me solder very quickly.

There should be some equivalent to the apocalypse now quote about “I love the smell of napalm in the morning” that pertains to “I love the look of meticulously hand soldered through hole component arrays” only in some way more clever and articulate than I can seem to conjure up at the moment.

Looks super bad ass, and I look forward to hearing you having your way with it. [ high five and most appropriate emoji ]

Will that do for now?
