Bi-weekly record-diving sampling extravaganza | 43 | Lionel Richie - Truly

I turned the Lionel Richie vocals and piano into some fun thing on my Digitakt.

Chopped up a drum break

Played the bass on my Arturo’s minilab

I included the turntable to add a few bits from the Biz and even added a bridge in there.

A bit rough in parts but its a performance right?

That beat bumps! I love how even Raekwon at the end was like “Yo @malus_mons you need to slow down on the beer bro” (and Lionel fades out)

Not sure if its the retro visuals - but such a sweet throwback tune. Nice one!

Thanks Nate for starting this competition off. It forced me to Chop and remove layers using spectra layers 12. I also got to sample everything into the Rossum SP-1200. After the SP I performed it live in Ableton. Overall this friendly competition forced me to push myself. I can’t wait for the next competition.

I sampled the only good part of this record and used it to ping some filters in the AR, trying to channel some late 90s pole, pansonic, clicks n cuts vibes.

Love this track, especially how you get these clear drums.

These are all fantastic guys/gals - you’ve all made the most of the sample and taken it in some really different directions, inspiring as always!!

Thank you. I was thinking maybe to do one more pass and push vocals more upfront

Indeed. That makes it a very good listen.

@Yabba I love the way you bring your drums in piece by piece. And I never noticed how shifting a closed hihat around ina few patterns creates so much swing and movement . I learn something every time I listen. Good to hear you again.

Thought I’d have a last go, I wanted to use a vocal and tried to think of a hip hop track with True in the title and I remembered a track i always liked, Who’s the Truest by True Master
