Bethesda Starfield (no spoilers)

Well I have about 1300 games on Steam and other platforms and I can name hundreds of them, whether I own or not, that are worse than Starfield. Maybe you mix up “this is not the game I was hoping for” and “one of the worst games I have played in my life”, Starfield is certainly not the best but it has excellent potential as long as it we want to find some in there. Let’s take the example of progression of a No man’s sky. If the RP content of games is declining, it is certainly due to the players and the overwhelming majority who do not have the time and demand games to be finished quickly (!!!).
The level of quality and quality at release drops but the critical ability of players drops even more if you ask me.
I hear so many complaints, useful or not, about games but so many of us play and enjoy in silence, Starfield or Forza Motorsport are two recent good examples for me.

As a very casual early 40s gamer, it’s a fun gaming universe to explore. I like the general aesthetics and the gravity/phyiscs mechanics are very pleasant for bouncing around the towns and cities. Load times have been smooth (xbox series x) and no game breaking freezes for me. I’m good for like 3-4 single player games a year (pretty much gave up on anything multiplayer like 5 years ago) and I can see enjoying this one for months to come. I think it could use a little more obsidian style silliness (ala outer worlds and new vegas), but it scratches the itch for a big long game that doesn’t make you bang your head on the wall if you just want to clear your head and put in an hour or two every few days.

Could it be better? Absolutely. Did I enjoy almost every minute of the embarrassing amount of time I put into it? With the exception of the Ryujin questline, yes. I had the most fun exploring planets and scanning things, stumbling upon random outposts/ labs/ geology, gazing at the absolutely gorgeous sunset and trembling at the horrific creatures they created. A few side quests were genuinely fantastic, and I really enjoyed the UC storylines. I didn’t bother finishing the last main quest, because I really don’t like how they have implemented NG+, but I will definitely come back once there is an expansion.

I got going in early access but maybe like others kinda dropped off about 3 or 4 weeks ago. There was a patch that botched my performance, then I switched to Cyberpunk while that sorted itself out. Once I got back to it it was this thing where all the missions needed the ammo and med packs I don’t have. I like the chill talky aspects of the game and the gunplay perhaps less so. I found a number of fragments at this point and also a few skills. I like the world and enjoy playing in it, but I find it needs a lot of time sunk, just casually dipping in doesn’t get much done. I can spend a session just reading the help menu lol. Haven’t had the time lately for it but will nice to jump back in at some stage

Side note, I can’t believe how vastly improved pretty much every aspect of Cyberpunk is. This is probably the most surprising videogame replay I’ve ever experienced

I’m really enjoying the game. And it isn’t Fallout in space …. it’s Skyrim in space! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I’ll play this game eventually…I even like Fallout 76…but it does seem to lack many of the things I like best about Bethesda rpgs, in particular the maps

Unfortunately i have to agree. On a technical level i cant say its the worst , its a functional game with a very big budget but … its like a bad Roland Emmerich movie, completely soulless, dull and generic. Cant say its the worst game i ever played but for me its the biggest disappointment ever considering the budget, marketing etc.

Behesda cities are almost always pretty underwhelming, but yeah. New Atlantis is disappointingly small.

Wait, what? Is Cyberpunk now a playable and enjoyable game? I watched its development from almost the first press release and didn’t buy it when released due to the poor reception/critics.

If it’s improved I will definitely check it out, have been wanting a proper Cyberpunk game for such a long time and was so disappointed when the critics rolled in on how buggy, broken and bland the game was when released, haha.

Cyberpunk was in such bad shape that Sony pulled it from their store for over 6 months … I hear it is in much better shape today. I may pick it up on a sale but I’ve got enough backlog of games to last a while.

yeah I started a Cyberpunk campaign over a year ago when they ironed out most issues but it didn’t stick with me and I didn’t get into it. Might give it another go after Starfield now that they issued this massive update.

Yeah it certainly is to me!
