Bethesda Starfield (no spoilers)

Well, we’re in the final count down to the launch of what I hope will waste a significant proportion of my life over the coming months…STARFIELD :rocket: :dizzy:

Any other Starfield lovers out there? Anyone stumping up for the early access?
I’ve just upgraded to an Xbox Series X and paid the man for Gamepass to access the standard game on the 06-Sep but I confess it’s tempting to pony-up the extra for early access on 01-Sep.

Wow, so this is actually coming out! Are people expecting a hot mess like Cyberpunk? Or is a slightly modernized but ultimately bit stuck in the past Bethesda game more likely? Or will they manage to revolutionize the genre again?

Digital Foundry had a preview of the first hour or so and seem positive albeit saying little.

Really, really looking forward to this one. But I’ll be honest, I don’t trust Bethesda to pull it off. I hope to be mistaken.

If its any good I think I will buy it. I think I am done with Gamepass. To many options somehow. And You never own anything.

With Starfield I have mixed feelings. I hope it will be great, but it could be so big that maybe the mechanics may suffer. Skyrim had very bad mechanics. Fallout 4 was better but still had very bad shooter mechanics for a game where you shoot a lot. Still a great game. But it had a really great world. Hope Starfield is not to clean and it really needs good mechanics.

On which Plattform are you going to play? Since I will build a new PC I go PC, but Couch would also be nice.

Paid the 30 whatever for premium with Game Pass. Do it. It’s labor day weekend.
After so many fast twitchy games with Remnant2 and AC6, a more relaxing exploration game will be nice.

I’ve been bashing my head against Returnal for a couple of months on the PS5 and am really looking forward to something a bit more laid back with plenty of exploration, stat building and puzzle solving.

Agreed - I’m spending a lot of my time in Armored Core 6 just taking it slow and enjoying all the care and craft put into the environments and worldbuilding, which you can totally miss if you play the game quickly as it’s sort of intended. I’m really looking forward to kicking my feet up on my coffee table, laying back, and letting my brain do what it whats in Starfield. Skyrim was a massively relaxing experience for me, and I’m excited for another Bethesda game.

Not sure how the rest of you feel, but the “NASA Punk” look of starfield has me more excited than almost any other sci fi world in years and years. I love that robot design, and I’m going to spend weeks and weeks in the shipbuilder.

What’s everyone think about the landscapes and planets? On the one hand, I’m wondering if they’ll feel barren and boring. On the other, I think that might be intentional, so that when you do find something unusual, it really stands out as a memorable experience. I feel like that’s what real exploration is like - persisting through the boredom and then really appreciating when you find something special.

I’m sure it will be like a lot of other AAA launches, full of bugs, but I’m guessing most of them will be either small inconveniences, or things that are just funny and interesting. The Kotaku / games press / twitter world are going to tear Starfield apart for every tiny problem, but it’s probably going to be exaggerated, like it usually is.

This is so true. I’m a Yankee but traveled to New Zealand 20 years ago. Drove all around the South Island. Would drive for an hour or two with ho hum views and then something insanely beautiful would open up to me. That happened so many times. Wonderful trip. If Starfield can be 20% of New Zealand I will be happy!

I’m seriously considering buying an Xbox just so I can play this.

Edit: looks like it’s on PC. I might not have to!

I had to! I prefer playstation and the PS5 controller is awesome but I have no problem prostituting myself to all the gaming religions to enjoy the best gaming to be had.
This isn’t going to help my music output over the coming months :zonked:

I am probably gonna get an Xbox to play this once my current big work project is finished…IF it ain’t too buggy! I am a superfan of Fallout 76, perhaps one of the only superfans on earth, but that launch was a catastrophe…I suspect they learned a few lessons from that experience and spent extra time ironing this one out…

If it’s on streaming platform I’ll play it on my Mac in a browser like forza and planet of Lana.

Though I haven’t checked if it’s streaming or device only.

I feel so old looking at those specs.

125 GB available HD space and that HD better be SSD or GTFO.

It’s taking everything I have to not purchase the early release version. I’m pretty confident that it’ll be a good game like all Bethesda titles, but the modding community will make this the greatest open world game of all time.

Yah getting to the point where i just assume I’d be hopelessly out of spec. Was rather surprised to find that my CPU from 2018 is still good.

Remember the days when you could install from floppies?
