Best way to loop/duplicate last 16 steps of a pattern

Often I feel like I want to loop the last 16 steps of a (typically 64 step) pattern to build a transition. What’s the quickest way to achieve the same effect? Guessing it can’t be done spontaneously? So is there a quick method to duplicate the last 16 steps of a pattern to a new pattern? Thanks!

Copy your pattern.

In the copied version, use Function + Right Arrow to move the entire pattern 16 steps to the right.

Decrease the pattern length down to 16. Your last 16 steps are now your first, and you’ve got it looped in a sweet 16-step transition pattern.

very cool
had no idea you could move your patterns like that.
BTW Andreas, are you doing all your drums and percussion on the Octatrack nowadays.

Thanks, this is what I already did  shame there’s no way to set pattern loop points on the fly with scenes or something, but this works OK if planning ahead.

Yep, all within the Octa. Resampling saves the day. And the LFOs connected to the Octatrack’s filter, eq and amp release usually give that human vibe that I’d miss from more expressive drum machines otherwise.

Why not just use Page+Copy then paste to new pattern?

Page Copy sounds way quicker than what I’ve been doing, thanks. Think I learned this shortcut during first couple of weeks of OT but then totally forgot about it  ha. I’ll check it out again.

Sometimes when I’m working on a pattern I like to use the arranger to loop a specific part of it, and you could certainly use this in a live performance as well. For the last 16 steps use an offset of 48 and a length of 16.
