I could buy 4 secondhand RD-9s for that!
how are those button mods coming along?
These would be sweet. Does anyone know if they could be compatible?
Love that this dream remains alive. I share it
No, the RD9 just has PCB contacts and a sheet of rubber.
Thereās no possibility of 3D printing something that would hold the keys in place over the PCB?
Also if you know of a resource where I could research these answers myself, I would appreciate. Like keyboard standards and such.
Most people probably just use google , I doubt anyone is hiding any magical information.
Or buy a nava
Or re-909
Or tr-909
Or go in the box and use a mechanical keyboard to get similar feel.-
Near zero chance of this. If the RD-9 uses membrane keys it has a completely incompatible PCB. Mechanical keys require holes in the PCB with traces to pass the electrical signal. It would require a highly in-depth mod and for that amount of effort, just buy a RE-909 kit and be done with it.
at a certain point I started checking the mouser catalog for compatible buttons but itās hard, especially because the LEDs. If someone can find a solution itād be awesome
This guy has heavily modified many of the Behringer devices. If it could be done, Iām pretty sure heād have done it given itās such a common topic.
Behringer RD9 Modifications ā maffez synth mods
He shows custom membrane type keys:
Theyāre simply incompatible and different switch types let alone the LED.
Maybe Behringer will do a v2 like they did with the RD-8 and switch to a mechanical key type, but the prospect of replacing the existing keys is just about non-existent unfortunately.
OK⦠thanks guys. I guess Iāll invest in a Beatstep or something.
I never found those buttons to be a problem. But the one main problem with the RD-9 is the high pitched whine coming from the main output, and Iām still searching for a solution. Has anyone found one yet?
^ Iāve not had that.
When it feels like it the hats (open and closed) on my unit are substituted for a tiny high pitch tone. This occurs from boot up.
The unit is always fine after a restart.
OK well, since changing the keybed is a dead-end solution, Iāve tried to think of alternate solutions. And it came to me, very clearly: the accented step input system is the real problem. Entering a step or removing one takes 2 hits (two miserable, awkward hits) to go from OFF>SOFT>STRONG. There is no need to not have this optional. Instead, it could be like the TR-8 for example: hold āTRIGGERā or wtv and enter the step to have it Accented. I think it would go a LONG way in improving user experience to have this system be optional (in PREFS)
Iām aware this was a feature of the original TR-909, but:
- The strength order was the other way around (off>strong>soft)
- It was miserable and was never implemented again.
- The original mechanical keyboard was way more enjoyable.
- There are a lot of other features that werenāt implemented in the RD9, this does nothing to improve authenticity.
Besides making a thread on:
https://community.musictribe.com/discussion/behringer/96/106/324743/rd-9%253A-request-for-improving-accents
Do you know of another way to get this implemented?
Thank you for your time.
Yep holding the instrument button whilst tapping a step for a full accent. It would require two hands but would be fast. Currently the instrument button on the RD-9 triggers the instrument, so that would be lost (but whoās using those, that way anyway - using the pad is better).
Personally I donāt mind the 909 way. A double press is faster than a reliably implemented long-hold I think. And the overall handling of accents on a 909 allows 4 levels including 2 variable levels ⦠which is pretty good compared the most traditional drum machines Iāve used.
Trying here also - did anyone manage to send Sync24 (din-sync) from the RD-9 to old roland gear like a tr-808?
Anyone know where to get the knobs shown on this page?
Possibly sifam/selco knobs
http://www.thonk.co.uk/shop/intellijel-black-knobs/
the encoder knob looks like he transplanted from an UNO drum.

Hmmm. Going to ask them if they will fit.
Sorry, I donāt, but you could try to email and ask.
