I had to laugh at the top comment on the youtube page:

Congrats Emilie on the release ! :tada:

On the Grind, when you save a Pattern, what does it mean?

Pattern = Sound (with all its Parameters) and Notes
or
Pattern = Notes?

In other words, can you save Preset Sounds on the Grind?

Not a chance imho - it’ll be sequence data which is saved and nothing else, despite it having a digital engine in there - there’s zero way to make a full patch save given its semi-modularity, so it would be a half-baked solution - you also do not want the pots to be out of position on a device like that

i don’t have one because i can fake a grind, but i’d be very surprised if my assertion was wrong

it’s more overtly irksome that sequences are divorced from the source engine because of teh variety of engines - but even on the crave, a pattern is probably connected to some extent to the sound you were working on when sequencing it - a video or a picture record might be a better way to approach ā€˜storing’ ideas and connected patterns

besides, starting from nothing is more inspiring

Im pretty sure it’s only note data as the envelopes , filter etc are analogue with no digital control
There’s no patch save buttons , only seq save.

The only ā€˜presets’ that can be changed are the fm synth patches

I’ll turn it on tonight , have a look.
Build quality seems fine on it.

interested to hear any opinions on their LPG and its utility in a device like this - i’d love one, but i have their sequencer(crave) and brains (with a screen) - waiting on a spice which would be all new territory

Mine arrived this afternoon. Interesting little synth. Hadn’t quite realised how small these Behringer boxes are. A few scratches on the face plate - I think from the UK power adapter banging around in the box. But for the price hard to complain and there’s an awful lot there for you Ā£169.

Not a huge amount of documentation with the thing. Not quite Korg levels of uselessness. But will take a bit of working through. Some of it makes immediate sense - the sequencer/arp in particular is simple and nicely done. Very immediate results as soon as you get your hands on it, which is always pleasing. And zero menu diving throughout. The main complexity is the range of different purposes to some of the controls dependent on the sound model you are using. Which is bringing back my utter befuddlement when trying to navigate Clouds. Clearly I am not born to understand Mutable Instrument stuff. Watching a few videos on Plaits to get my head around the various noises it emits and how to control them.

I have Microfreak but I’m still sort of interested in this  Could be a nice companion to my Neutron.

I got mine yesterday. I ended up blissing out with it on a simple sequence for an hour and a half. It really sounds great. The ladder filter and lpg really add something.

The build quality is really good. I really like the feel of all the knobs and the lay out for the 4 main osc parameters are well placed IMO. My left hand tweaks the first two, whilst my right tweaks the fourth. The 3rd is the frequency and so set and forget for me.

I found so many sweet spots and I didn’t really spend much time on the percussion algo’s. Might not even need the Spice, I’ll wait and see.

Yes, its kind of clicked today. Lots of gnarly bassline fun, with all manner of added extras scattered all over the place. Its got a really nice nastiness to it which is very appealing.

I see that you can set Auto-Play to disable using a sysex message with MIDI OX.

Set Sequencer Auto Play : F0 00 20 32 00 01 50 valid 1D D0 F7
D0: 0x00 → Disable / 0x01 → Enable Default Value: 0x01

How can I do it? Thanks!

What part of the sysex message do I have to write and send?

Exactly what was needed to force me to walk through the thing. Very very useful. Thanks for posting.

Got mine hooked up to Digitakt but the Grind sequencer keeps triggering ffs have you figured how to stop this? There’s no Grind available on Synthtribe as far as I can see. I just want to use the D2 sequencer to trigger sound

I’m waiting for an answer for this.

Yeah seen that… I thought like all other Beringer gear this option would be available to disable in their ā€œSynthtribeā€ app however Grind doesn’t even show up there when connecting via usb like all their other synths do. Would have been easier to disable that way IMO

It should be a question of time to get the Grind on the Synthtribe app? It’s my first Behringer, I wasn’t even aware of that app until I read it in the Grind manual last night.

Yeah I have RD-9, TD3-MO x2 and both can be updated, programmed (patterns) etc via Synthtribe however Grind is the only one so far that’s not there. Maybe it will be soon.

PS

Grind sounds so good I have no complaints about that, I bought 2 of them for different purposes. It’s just a matter of decoupling the sequencer from the synth and it’s all good. For the price Grind is a no brainer.

Absolutely. That’s why I didn’t hesitate to pre-order it.

Mostly sampling Grind into Digitakt 2 for now… catching all sorts of goodness this thing is capable of some great sounds. It’s definitely a keeper. These will sell a shitload IMO
