Behringer BM-15M Murf Box as Sherman Filterbank alternative?

Hi folks, as described above. Do you think the new pedal can be used as an alternative for the Sherman filterbank?

I know that the Behringer pedal is a copy of the Moog MF-105.

I would use the pedal for the kick drum to give it more resonance plus drive. Many people in the Tekno scene do this with the Sherman, but it’s too expensive for me and wouldn’t fit into my setup in terms of space.

Here are some sherman examples:

Totally. The demo was kinda bad, but if it’s anything like the original it should work fine (like they did not really showcase the drive). One shop I checked showed estimated 6 month delivery so only time will tell. It could be faster since B said it’s ready to ship from factory.

Have you tried to find some demos of the original on Youtube?

I tried, but the original moog mf-105 demos are mostly with guitars and/or synth sounds.

i had a sherman - it confused the hell out of me… it cost a lot and i had no idea how to use it.

the murf pedal looks simple enough for me to use and the effect you want would seem achievable … though it depends on the resonance boost you want… I’d either search for more moog demos or wait for mrf to get released for more demos… just to check how similar the filter is .

I have a Sherman and it still confuses the hell out of me. It’s why I love it. Well, that and the filthy evil noises it makes.

Yeah i understand but for me it feels like a bit to expensive and also it will not fit into my 19 inch rack.
So thats why i am looking for alternatives

The Sherman is completely its own thing.

there is nothing like a sherman.

The only thing like a Sherman is another Sherman.

And the Arturia Dist Coldfire plugin.

I suspect the Murf drive wouldn’t really be what you’re looking for - the Moog drive is an overdrive, the Sherman is straight up distortion. If you do plugins, you can try demoing the Moog VST Murf. I think they sound a bit too digital personally but they’re in the ballpark. I do think that the Arturia Coldfire or Trash would be more what you want though.

Isn’t there a rack version? Granted that doesn’t help with expense.

try running your kick drum through a feedback loop on an analog mixer if you want distortion with “resonance” for cheap
you could get better results than you might expect.

There is indeed a rack version. They go for around £500-£575 here in the UK secondhand. Not cheap, but not too bad considering nothing else does what it does.

… and nothing was like a Moog MF-105 until that B version happened.

I had a Sherman FB2 Compact, smaller footprint, and an MF105 too. I would NOT say they are alike, unless we are telking about the gain character only, if that.
I would rather bet on the MF-101 or on the Vermona Filter Lancet or Retroverb Lancet.
The MF Drive has a nice grain but is less tweakable plus it does not offer the dry blend, which -I think- is a key to both dynamic and dirt drum sounds.
