HiPeeps,
Anyone out there have or used one of the BCR2000s? I was wondering if the “Learn” function works with Elektron kit, or just soft synths?

Eric
It works, yeah.
Do you have one and use it with soft synths? What DAW do you use? I’m kind of stinted because it doesn’t play easily with Reaper…
I tried geting my old BCR to recorgnize the AR (using the learn function) yesterday. But i couldn’t get it to work. The BCR MIDI input led flashes when i turn the encoders on the AR. So it receives some kind of MIDI data. But it doesn’t wanna learn the controller mappings.
I tried setting the output mode on the AR to both CC an NRPN. But neither worked.
Would be grateful for any tips on how to set this up to work.
I think i found the solution. It seems there are different operating modes on the BCR. And it is only one of the modes that support the learn function when it is hooked up with MIDI cables.
Will give it a try when i get home.
Withh midi cables you have to be “stand alone” mode or something. No. 4 i think. Give the knobs a good wiggle. Itll work. Sometimes takes awhile and/or couple tries.
This is all from the top of my head. If you don’t get it I’ll give it a good look at home.
I use BC Manager anyway. Essential and awesome.
MIDI learn should work with no problems and as mentioned, check the mode in which the BCR is in. when using MIDI learn, the controller will also tell you whether or not the MIDI message was properly received. also check that the machine you’re connecting the BCR is sending MIDI CCs out…just in case
Yes, it works!
I actually was searching for a hardware midi controller that supported this kind of easy midi learn functionality. And couldn’t find anything with these specs. And I didn’t realise i had one that was just collecting dust on the shelf.
So if you have a BCR collecting dust somewhere i suggest you give it a try. It actually is really fun being able to quickly map parameters to the BCR on the fly while jamming. And then having quick access to parameters from any track.
So for future reference if anyone coming across this thread is trying to do the same thing. This is how you set the BCR up to handle midi learn hooked up to your elektron box.
-
First of all, in the global settings of your elektron box make sure that it transmits MIDI CC messages from the encoders. Sending NRPN doesn’t work it seams.
-
Set your BCR in operating mode “S4” by holding the EDIT key and then pressing the STORE key (you are now in global setup mode).
-
Now turn the first push encoder until the display shows “S4” (double MIDI mode).
-
Press EXIT to store the settings on the BCR.
You are now pretty much set to go if you have hooked the MIDI out on the elektron box to the MIDI in on the BCR. And the MIDI out (A) on the BCR to the MIDI in on the elektron box.
Now just hold the LEARN button on the BCR and turn any encoder. Then turn any encoder on the elektron box to map it to that encoder on the BCR.
Pretty neat!
BC Manager allows more in depth editing, particularly vis a vis the pads: mutes, scenes, and perf is otherwise difficult or impossible to assign to the BCR. I have scenes assigned to the top row of buttons and performance assigned to the upper row of pots which double as buttons. Thus I can toggle or twist Performance. I leave the ar pads to mutes. No more button pushing to get between them. Fun.
I haven’t checked, but are trig conditions MIDI assignable? With those assigned a pot…
Best bit of kit Behringer ever made*… if onyl it wasn’t so bulky.
*Yeah, yeah, not a high bar…
yep, best gear from Behringer…indeed; a bit of a ‘space taker’ on the desk but it’s a great MIDI controller…one thing i’ll probably never sell…only for a MKII perhaps
Could someone here give som guidance on how to program the CC61 request along with the actual CC to control specific parameters on the OT using the BC Manager? I’m getting an “status byte expected” error when trying to create a custom command in the manager.
