This is like when a company launches a new product line. Loved the video and add me to the list of those who want more Florian tutorials.
What’s even worse is when multiple bands share the same name. I listened to an ambient/post-rock record by a band called Forum, which I really enjoyed. Unfortunately, The Algorithm™ took that to mean that I also liked a 60s doo-wop group called Forum and (even better) a Russian dub-jungle-drumnbass-step 180BPM EDM nightmare with a name that is just Cyrillic characters but (evidently) translates to Forum. Swing and a miss, iTunes
Yeah, I thought it was a fun video. I hope he explores this side of things more, as well as the tape echo video.
I want him to expand more broadly now. Do a cooking show, or Florian learning to fly a small plane.
Bad landing gear
This will be interesting as I still love my EMX and it was trying to find an analogue version thereof that led me to the A4 and Elektron in the first place.
If this came out today and cost less than a thousand currency units, it would be an immediate object of worship.
Oh NOES!!!
Every time he takes the Rocket out for a spin I miss the one I used to own and sold like an idiot.
I wouldn’t kick one of those out of bed. Looks great!
Wouldn’t pay £500 for one, mind.

Bad Gear is always more optimistic than you might expect, but I think the best episodes always involve something Florian genuinely and obviously loves. With that said, the EMX-1 is the second-last piece of gear I ever expected to see on the channel!
Number one is the MPC3000 and number three is the ESX-1. Counting down the days until I’m proven wrong.
good episode. the emx-1 was my first piece of harware and i regret selling it!
Feeling pretty seen right now, so if anyone needs me I’ll be opening & closing the filter on a synth in dark room for a few hours
Apple “intelligence” summarising my email updates for this thread, lol

I’m not sure I really understood from the episode why it’s so highly regarded.
It seems like a fairly cheesy rompler.
Any lovers able to explain it?
I think for it’s time it sounded quite fresh and the tubes actually sound pretty decent and made it quite a unique proposition. Don’t forget this was pre-analogue revival, so it probably sounded pretty beefy compared to pretty much everything else available, which at that price range was mostly boring VA shit and romplers.
They do sound pretty dated these days, given how much decent analogue stuff is available now but there’s definitely a nostalgia to it’s sound for those of us that were into electribes back in the day.
My brother loves this machine, he has been using it for at least 10 years now and sometimes I‘m still quite baffled by the things he gets out of it. Somehow it’s the only peace of gear he really ever uses, which in a way saved me from any major GAS ideation and inspired me to learn the stuff I buy inside out and try to push it to it‘s limits. I think I should also say the EMX really fits his sound (or vice versa, the borders are quite blurry by now).
I‘m on my way to visit him right now, I guess the first thing we‘ll do is watching this episode together. Really looking forward to see his reaction!
