Oof, even before the smartphone days it could arouse suspicion (although in this hectic age a bit more now). Was once stopped at an airport for carrying around a metal USB drive.
The time I brought an Electribe ESX through airport security in a laptop bag was entertaining - the bloke checking my bag wanted to know more about it, but his superior made him hurry me along and get everything packed back up.

I still have one - with the screen protector plastic still intact! 
A bit dusty but the keys aren’t nearly as yellow. I guess I am more adverse to sunlight or something
Why I never got rid of it:
- it still works
- is easy to use
- more of a hassle get rid of it than it is worth
Edit: BTW, it does live up to being actual Bad Gear in that the rubber mod and pitch bend wheels turned sticky and gooey years ago. Maybe Nord was onto something…
