Avalon Bassline...worth it?/ Opinion

I’m really hoping used prices on these drop once the next batch goes out. I’d absolutely love to get my hands on one.

me too, sad days not ordering when i wanted back in the day but no money for acid synth back then
hope i can get my hands on one relatively soon, i do not like using the behringer clone

Oh yes, no shade on someone who wants a backup. And I still empathize with peoples’ frustrations.

Was just funny how wildly inappropriate the expectations were set for another person who hopped on to capitalize on FOMO. It does make sense for someone who has odd expectations for pandemic logistics/supply chain (as if everything is still JIT-accessible) will have odd expectations that yelling that you’re going to sue someone for a preorder taking too long will help anything or that suing will do very much, or even that small claims court would be easier than seeking a refund.

Yeah, I’d keep tabs on when they all start going out, but I think we all hope that the “collectors market” gets rekt.

he does explicitly say, “we did another run of Avalons to keep the lights on.” That make me think he might do it again if the components are available and he still wants to keep his lights on.

I’d be open to buy spare parts if nothing else

He explicitly said it would be the last run, tho. “To keep the lights on” I believe was stated in the context of providing some additional funds to Abstrakt while the VS-1 project dragged on with delays, unexpected costs and additional shipping fees, getting screwed over with parts and case issues like all other manufacturers right now.

If it’s going EOL for the immediate future (and he surely is going to want a reasonable few year break after all of this) hopefully he can provide some common part #s for a user group buy. I’m sure the Avalon FB group would be up for that.

I have been trying to cancel mine off and on for almost a year and I’m sure I’m not alone. If he ever reads his messages perhaps he will throw the cancellations back up for sale on the Abstrakt site so maybe keep a lookout

no chance, they’ll most likely go up in price

I’m apparently a 30 minute drive away from abstrakt instruments. I’m planning to drive there this week and ask for proof that a product will be shipping soon, and if not, my money back. It’s thousands of dollars and I could really use the money if the instrument is never actually coming.

I hate to throw gas on the fire but hey, this is the internet.

Brad or Chad or whatever the guys name is probably doesn’t have the money to refund anyone.

Edit: Brian

Good point. Tone: sincere

From the Abstrakt Avalon FB group: shipping notices for the last run of Avalons are starting to drop (someone posted a screenshot to the group). I don’t have any more details. Fingers crossed.

Yeah just saw this now on Facebook…insane if real!

If you read all of the Facebook posts and who knows what to believe (mostly hearsay and conjecture) Brian is shipping “a few every Friday” (however many that means) and doing in batches by color. Black cases with blue or red LEDs are apparently up first. It’s probably the smaller ordered color combinations first, then tackling larger ones (e.g. white case w/ blue or white LEDs) in more assembly line fashion.

Again, epic grains of salt when consuming this info. That said, it’s plausible and makes sense that he’d be tackling these in smaller batches while waiting on things for other commitments. I think this last run was “a couple hundred” units, so depending on what “a few” is being built every week it could still be quite some time before all orders a completed. He’s entirely a one man show, and everything is hand built (some amount of soldering required), assembled and tested, so anything is encouraging, but not anticipating much. I’d still expect end of the year if not early next year for a lot of folks, myself likely included.

Just thinking out loud and likely entirely wrong too. As usual, an update email giving even a modicum of clarity would go a long way.

What is this realistic response?! According to the Facebooks everyone is totally going in on some fantasy Class Action suit

Edit: always makes me laugh the biggest complainer about that bought several to flip

I mean if even one person gets there’s this week that’s enough for me to stay very hopeful lol

We did see the boxes full of the silver cases, so they at least exist

Hi guys, bought one 2nd hand last week and loving the sound, for those who have been using theirs maybe you can help. When I turn the pattern off the note hangs, even with a blank pattern it creates a stuck note. Any solution to this? Cheers

Mine did the same thing, so I reckon it’s a design issue between the analog and digital boards. Mine was one of the very first batches and it went back to Brian for a service, so it was checked over properly and I was advised by the original distributor in the UK that this is just what happens.
My workaround was to trigger another note and adjust some of the modulation envelopes and it will stop the hanging note.

I have sold mine a while ago, but iirc there’s an amp envelope decay parameter.
