I’ve been starting to get my first set together with my OT (2 weeks old, and loving it) Having much fun syncing my AK, and getting to grips with it’s mind bending and audio bending capabilities.
For the first part of the set I want to simply play some old tracks I’ve previously made. Thought it would be nice to try and use the OT as the ‘DJ’ setup described in the manual. I’ve followed the tutorial in the manual - given the OT the correct BPM for the songs, used tracks 1 & 5, and a crossfader setup.
This all works well, and I can cue the song in waiting with the cue & track buttons. However… is there anyway to see how far through the currently playing song I am?
I’m following the tutorial, so no sample trigs, just using the track trigs. Using sample trigs I’m pretty sure I remember seeing a kind of timeline and moving playhead, but I can’t see any such when triggering them without actually placing sequence trigs.
There is a playhead in slots and slices trig modes, right below the graphic representation of them there is a line with a position marker…
Some finger gymnastics is needed, but reachable.
we’re talking bar counts here only, end of the day…
if you really can’t go by ear and knowing, have a little list with tempo and overall bar lenght of each full playback track…
helps a lot in many ways…not only for knowing when a tracks comes to an end…
but sooner or later, you won’t ask yourself anymore anyway…
what frees you up from all of this and pushes your interaction options a lot when hanging on a full playback, is to have some small extra beat loops from those tracks in your sample slot list…you can do nice offset frolicking with them and use these always for transitions…
so you’re never running out of time…
Thanks guys, useful tips. I checked out the slots/slices marker - it wasn’t quite what I was looking for. Will just have to get to know the songs better… they are my own songs so it shouldn’t be that hard!
