Yes. I think half the complaints were about the presets which is sooo stupid. Many synth creators only show the included patches. The new presets are much better, more variant and more expressive. They included so many new presets for the Polybrute 12.
Btw. It should be mentioned that the Polybrute 6 isn’t much bigger than a Hydrasynth. I own both. The height is the same (vertical depth) and it’s like 20cm wider. Many also were criticizing it, while I not once read that critic on the Hydrasynth.
Polybrute is as good as any polysynth I’ve ever owned or played. Really surprised to hear some of the criticisms, it can do it all! And I’m not a keys player but the keys feel great to me, but maybe if I were a keys player I’d feel differently?
I am really excited. Always loved the Polybrute but could never convince myself to spend that much money as I really like 7+ voice chords.
This is obviously a lot pricier, but while I save up funds it may give them time to release a noir version of this one as well - I am really not vibing with the color schemes
But the color is really perfect for a smoker household. The keys will get the same colours at some point like the case.
Just kidding. I love the color <3
this is gonna be my number on to-buy synth. the sounds in the bo beats video are some of the best synth sounds ive heard. exactly the sound im looking for. plus, im always trying to build patches that start with plucky transients and bloom out into thick fizzy pads, which is possible, but not the same as the fulltouch eg modes
i love the look. so weird when people criticize certain synth design when 90% of synths are horrifically ugly looking to me. like i dont remember seeing this kind of criticism when the moog grandmother came out. about the name or the look . or the hydrasynth. orange on black is the worst. makes me almost not want to own it
the cream color is great, as are the maroon and deep blue knobs. very classy. makes me wanna touch it
Some would say that 20 cm matters.
Maybe that’s the issue, can it also sound unique?
I think the main challenge is keyboardists trying to get used to expressive controllers.
Expressive playing works well for anyone with a 1-2 fingers at the same time. As soon as you add more, it becomes a matter of skill and patience.
Furthermore, polyphonic expression means that maybe 1-2 fingers are truly expressive while the rest are limited to playing a more “boring” yet essential role. That’s something that the Touché can’t do.
Expressive is especially hard because of its x movement for each key (so you can move the keys left and right). The Polybrute only has movement up and down. So based on reviews this seem much easier to handle
I think it can sound as bland or as unique as any other synth really. But I’m not a very skilled synthesis and with rare exception I think most synths sound far more alike than they do different.
I would guess a bit more familiar to most at least.
I think with the X and Y axes some care needs to be taken in what is being modulated, and by how much.
Like maybe very slight vibrato left and right, and then mild filter cutoff up and down. That way the modulations wouldn’t be too exaggerated and much easier to control.
I haven’t used these newer key solutions, but I’ve used and even built a few pressure plate style controllers, and moderation and choice of modulation is always key with these. I would expect similar with the key based ones.
Not being critical, but i have a thread up specifically for comparing advanced keyboard synths.. This conversation fits the Polybrute thread here too.
Interesting discussion.
This 45min live jam with the new Polybrute, a full album worth of tracks, is the most impressive demonstration of a synth I have ever seen.
It demonstrates the synth so perfectly and it even includes a Syntakt. It surly won’t please some synth-heads for its modern sound, but it’s impressive as hell as he uses all the new expressive features of the synth in a live jam context.
It also shows whats possible with just two instruments that are surely very expensive. But still…
I listened to Daniel Fisher’s no talking demo on headphones in bed last night and I did a complete 180 on my thoughts about the PB12. It’s stunning.
It’s the best demo of just the PB12 I’ve heard so far. I don’t know when I’ll have the money for one, but one day…
It sounds amazing, and I love all the expressive control Arturia added. Truly incredible synth.
(Might need some help carrying it though!)
Yeah, when it was announced I was like yeah right, too rich for my blood, why should I even care. But then the demos, which truly deserve headphones…I’m with you, hopefully someday. The expressiveness is the best I’ve ever heard out of a synth and more interesting to me than, say, the Osmose. It just sounds and feels alive and a true extension of the player. Gotta check out that RMR next.
The pad break at 18:15 is awesome. Felt my soul ascend
There is definitely a rivalry here with these two French companies. Not that both being French companies has any relevance though.
Between surpassing on the keybed, they included the Touché like interface. It seems quite directed.
Would be interesting to hear the inside dialog at the moment at EE.
This is one of the best synth demos I’ve ever seen on YT.
And don’t forget the amazing sequencer, touch strip, effects, hands on, modulation matrix, performance arpeggiator, morphing, VST and more
