I am not sure yet if I want to sell my MB2S or find a drum machine to create a jam zone for fun. Initially looking the Drumbrute and DBI but both will need a mixer in top of that probably. I was also looking at the TR8S with its external input and some effect to put on the MB2S output.
Anyone with an idea of a funny drum machine to pair with the MB2S ? The Edge is also on my radar.
Sonic Potions OG LXR is decent fun with the Brendan Clarke firmware.
Volca Drum is dope and small - youāll want a stereo comp/drive pedal to run it through to make the most of it tho imho, same for the LXR although the LXR-02 I believe does have a compressor built in (but I greatly prefer the OG with BC firmware since it makes the sequencer much better and adds useful live performance features.
TR-8S is absolutely my favourite drum machine though.
I have all of these and paired with my MB-2S the techno cometh forth with little effort!
Yeah I hear you - pairing it with another semi-modular like the Neutron can give more varied envelope (and filter) options. I do often struggle to find the sweet spots on the MB-2S when using it solo, but the sequencer and the interface overall is great to jam with once you do.
Using the filter with high res makes weighty kicks and toms!
Yeah Iām not a modular expert by any means but perhaps thereās a way to patch the MB-2S to modify the envelope behaviour to make them more snappy (which is what I guess youāre after).
I havenāt tried this yet but maybe using feedback? For example AD envelope out to AD Decay in via an attenuator. Iāll give this a shot this evening and report back.
Thereās no way to patch anything on the Minibrute 2s to change the behaviors of the envelopes built in.
I personally have never felt the AD envelope in particular wasnāt snappy enough. But I do think if you want something snappy / punchier than perhaps a Low Pass Gate would be what youāre after. Either that or a plethora of eurorack envelope modules can get the job done, including maths, which is also just an AD envelope but you can change the shape of the slope.
Thereās also the envelope on the 2S sequencer for MOD1 and MOD2 as built options if you have the 2S.
I can confirm this works. I think the AD envelope is already nice and snappy and you can see on a scope it has an exponential decay. However, to make it even more snappy -
AD out to Atten1 In
Atten1 out to Inverter In
Inverter out to AD Decay
Then use Attenuator 1 knob to control the curve (snappiness!).
BTW, for a logarithmic response, donāt use the inverter.
Modular and Sequencer fun with the Arturia Minibrute 2s that just came! Sadly some encoders above the pads are being wonky and skipping values, but if i try to dial it in slowly then it works most of the time. Hoping maybe they will work themselves out or dust doing it maybe etc. I like it, can get pretty strange!
