I am curious whether more recent updates to the octatrack have included the arp being able to directly play sampler tracks without using a midi cable? If not, how do people handle the case where you’d like to send midi both back to the octatrack and external gear? Do y’all need a special midi device, or just rely on considerate mapping of MIDI?
In general, a cheap midi thru box would be a good lower tier investment for you to safely split your midi out port off into 2 destinations. Even so, as far as I’m aware, the only way to connect the in and out ports would be directly, with a cable.
seems like an oversight not to include an arp in the default sequencer for any/every track. I’d never known this was the case until I bought a unit this year…
Thats on you. Its been around for 15 years. The manual is available freely online, not to mention you can search dozens of forums to find out pretty much anything you want to know about it.
No where in the manual does it mention arp for audio tracks. The arp for the midi tracks is called ‘midi arp’.
As mentioned, you can send midi arp back to the audio tracks with a midi cable, if you want to.
Would be cool to know it there is a cheap solution for scaling the midi somehow so that it doesn’t go outside of the bounds of midi notes and accidentally change the settings of the device.
You can use a midi cable between IN and OUT, and use THRU to send back what comes in.
Clock and Transport can be sent back without problem.
Some settings can cause feedback if midi channels aren’t shared between audio and midi tracks. If you use T8 as master you can use its channel to play external gear notes…
oh for sure. I didn’t mean that I have “buyer’s remorse” or anything- the unit was used anyway. It’s certainly a feature I can live without and obviously there are solutions.
