Are you interested by a Tutorial Website based on Elektron machines?

Few months ago I have starting something.

My ambitious project was to help people to understand music production based on Elektron devices (but not restricted to it, let’s say base on Elektron + other few devices)

Then the financial aspect coming because of the strict cost of the website itself, server, video server, traffic etc…
I’m still on the project management part of this project. At first I would like to make it only for French people (before we are lazy people in languages maybe it’s starting to change a bit compared than one or two decades) and maybe translate it after and/or add subtitle to the courses. I have planned all the summary because I’m writing an eBook since 3 years and this project is a side effect idea.

I’m wondering if this project should not be a community project, where I cover some aspects and translated as well in French with some other people around. Maybe it should be translated as well by other Elektronauts here in German, Spanish etc…

The roots of the projects should be my eBook summary as a start point (Or we elaborate a new one from scratch with a WORKGROUP I don’t care maybe it’s better I can forget aspects) and we should divide tasks by people and by skills level maybe… to make video tutorials…
At the end it should be a very nice ressource for every people starting and WE achieved something nice all together for the newbies.

Anyway if no-one is interested to participate because quite frankly there will probably no money to win in that project, it will probably cost me or you more than win except the feeling to give something… at the end. Maybe you will probably tell me, hey, William don’t make social and make music ! but that’s a shame I would love if I start to find something like that without to pay 30euro/month like video2brain, ask video, groove3 etc… (website who not covered really hardware for now)

I would like to hearing you, what do you think, are you interested, have you got a bit of time to it, is it an interesting idea, is it a waste of time and money ? If something like that existing what would you like to find on it (wishes etc…)… include people from Elektron if they want to … you can send me private message as well if you want to say something in a more private way ! you welcome !

If this thread have no effect, no reply… I will do it, I have few guys here in France yet ready to start BUT I wondering if this project should not be something bigger with the help of elektronauts around here ! and then we should make a WORKGROUP with a ROAD MAP

NB: i will also ask to people on Elektron IRC channel and Slack community or at least give them this post link so they can read it.

Hi William,
if you say your ebook will be the first basis for this project, do you have a draft? if its in french? Im sorry, I cant read it. I think to reach most people, this plattform should originate in english, because its the most common language. even Olaf Wolkenhauer, who startet a very usefull elektron tutorial and is a native german, did this in english. So just explain a bit more in detail, what you are after.

Cheers

I too think doing it in french, or aiming to do translations all around, is a mistake if you aim at a bigger community… Lazy butts gotta learn to read english or they won’t gonna learn anytin’, ah ah!

For the general idea, I don’t know, there are lots of resources here and there on the web, forums, reviews, guides, video tutorials, lots of nice people ready to answer any question on the forums, even on Audiofanzine for the french-only speaking… I don’t know if a new platform could attract people already settled on such great places (elektronauts, gearslutz, muffwiggler, audiofanzine for the ones I love to use). I personnaly wouldn’t detract from, say, here at elektronauts, to get to a new place probably less crowded and that is officially “newbie orientated” ah ah!

Just bring your friends here and let’s have a party

Just introduce a ‘tutorial’ tag on the Media page on this website and upload your material there.

I have a draft and it’s in English as well as French I have done that in both. and it’s covering more than elektron it’s more like how to make music at home and for example I include hardware way and DAW-VST way (cover music genre, computer advises, homestudio, drums & synthesis, Bass & synthesis, Voice & Treatment, Music & synthesis, track construction, effects in details, mixing, what to do next)

I’d be quite careful how much time/passion you throw at the tutorials/books kind of stuff unless it’s something you’re doing mostly for pleasure. I think most people kind of enjoy to learn by digging around on YouTube and this forum and very often it is a case of ‘hit a wall. Ask for help’. Normally quite a specific problem that needs solving fast. Even after reading all manuals etc.

  • there are existing resources like merlins guide + a set of help document someone made for Elektron devices but I forget the details, and Elektron official manuals etc for literal reference etc. I’m not sure how much response you’d get, especially if you end up needing to charge £… It’s a nice idea but I’d just be cautious about the time you invest and the expectations.

From an Elektron user point of view though, the more info/resources the better, so I’m sure you’ll get some positive feedback and help some people out. I’m just not sure it will justify the efforts on your part. Good luck with it all though

What I didn’t like here is Issues is not separated from Request-Learning. So you help people on issues (most of the time people who are lazy to reading Elektron Manuals and that’s a FACT) most of the time we are the first level of the technical support of Elektron (and it’s ok). AND when it’s technical hardware maybe sometimes we gives advises that should possibly make things worst like to contact directly official support (generally there I’ll be silent)

I know it’s a bit harsh to say that but I have this feeling because the way the forum is built. It’s better than the old one… of course. Faster, maybe better when searching before to ask etc… But to me I didn’t see Learning here (In a FILTER way). Of course the Olaf Wolkenhauer documents are huge and I thank him for his work for everyone.
In fact on a forum (and it’s the same on every forum), it’s so “HUGE” … to find what you are looking for which is going to repost something already posted generally and maybe not find and leave/let go.

BUT I’m very happy and proud to have Elektronauts of course, I mean really.

I have recently bought OT, A4 and RYTM. Huge learning curve from almost every perspective including ways of working. I was previously almost exclusivly ITB so its a real change and challenge.

I have been consuming almost every tutorial i can find and i would welcome more from those that have experience of these amazing machines.

A tutorial section here on Elekronauts would be a really useful resouce from my perspective. In addition to the standard ‘how to use the machine’ tutorial i would like to see how people use the machines in recording and live situations, how they interact with DAWs, external controllers etc, workflow and creative processes.

One day i would hope to be a contributor to this type of resource, wont be for a few months yet though…

Our world can never have enough of people who want to help and teach. I like this idea.

My advise would be to position it against the sea of existing videos and other related sources already on the web. With some patience, I can google myself to almost any tutorial or function online, that helps me with an issue or two.

However, to get there, I’d have to wade through garbage. Read articles to find out if they’re helpful or not, screen a video to get an idea if the user has any idea what he’s talking about, and so on.

If this idea had a sort of Master Class take on it - basically, if it’s here, then it’s good - then I’d be all over this. An official platform for tutoring where I know that whatever content I stumble upon, will be made with the right quality.

That place is missing for these kind of things. If this idea would be that place, I would go there.

For obvious reasons, I think where possible it makes more sense to develop this initiative within (and with) this community and platform, I’m very confident that if it came down to bandwidth and site development to accommodate this in a more organised fashion you would get support from Elektron … but if you are doing something much broader than an Elektron focus then it may make more sense to do as you intended originally

Really interesting project mates ! I’m a rookie with electron products (I’m using the rytm for the moment) and I’m learning by myself day by day with internet, videos mostly and it’s really cool to see people who want help the community.

Perhaps in few months I could give my contribution to your ambitious project.

Hope you will find your way and make your project real guys.

Full support !

I am interested, and i may add some video tutorial. I think it would be good if there are also genere specific sections for music production, as each style has its own conventions. Also some music theory for electronic musicans should be included. I think it should be in English, as it reaches the largest audience.
