I finally watched the OVA!
I first watched it on Crunchyroll, which didn’t have the OVA.
Then HIDIVE started streaming it, and also had the OVA!

refresh me on the ova plot? is that the christmas episode or something?
Oh maybe it’s kanie’s birthday…
This track from Macross Plus sounds so 90s! Very Janet Jackson, lol! Vocalist is “Sharon Apple” the virtual idol so prominently featured in the show.
to me she sounds like “Gabriella Robin” the supposed vocalist from France who was rumored to be Yoko Kanno herself.
In any case Macross Plus was my introduction to Yoko Kanno the anime soundtrack composer.
I just forgot to mention that i got to watch Miyazaki’s ”the boy and the heron” on its European premiere date.
While it was great it was not his best. It didn’t reel me in or feel as epic as say Princess Mononoke. Not his best, not his worst!
It felt like it borrowed a little from Annihilation as well, which was pretty cool tbh.
Moffle takes the newbie park employees (almost all high school girls) to a preschool.
They end up battling an opposing group of fairies for a fall field trip. Contest includes brutal ring bouts.
Meanwhile the queen, Sento (named after 50 Cent LOLOLOLOL), etc trade jobs
I finished pluto, it was mostly good. I’m pretty tired of most of what this season has to offer, there has been some of it which has stayed good like frieren and actually overtake has been good also, but even the ones I was looking forward to are mostly let downs in one way or another.
Ursula K Le Guin died feeling bitter that Miyazaki let his son direct the adaptation of Earthsea, instead of taking the project himself.
That said, me and my homies are planning to watch Boy and the Heron
mononoke hime might be untouchable, as much as I enjoyed some of his other work. it’s the perfect blend of story and animation with character development and conflict equally spread out, it’s the last of the great ones that were entirely hand painted as well.
There is a certain magic in every frame being hand painted on animation cells, really feels alive.
That soundtrack was also my introduction to Arai Akino, a vocalist who is also an amazing songwriter in her own right
Something about this track always resonated with me. In the show it was used to show Sharon Apple’s voice circuitry/software being tested.
Robotech was my intro to the Macross franchise. For some reason I always got the most emotional response to the soundtrack for Macross Plus compared to the other Macross works.
I liked all the macross works except for delta. I thought delta was a little on the side of stupid idol memes.
did not stop me from watching it however.
And of course Yoko Kanno worked on Turn A Gundam which you should watch before it disappears from Youtube. As it turns out, this too was produced in the late 90s. Whoever played the guitar part totally nailed the Bill Frisell vibe
I always thought this song was in the anime “I Want To Be An Angel” but it was actually a Sharon Apple song - thus, it was in Macross Plus! The lyrics are in the Zentran language.
Yet another tour de force by Arai Akino (vocals) and Yoko Kanno (composition/production/rumored background vox as “Gabriela Robin”)
Thanks for the recommendations, totally, decent story and good animation is my jam. I don’t know most of these but I loved Ping Pong (and Tekkonkinkreet/Black & White)!
Another cool guitar track from Turn A Gundam. I’m on Episode 15. Not sure if I’ll get all the way to 50 before they yank it off their Youtube channel. If that happens I’ll just buy the Blu Ray(s) - I think it’s that good
Well, although it’s one of the strangest “worlds” in the gundam universe franchise, like I said before I liked it. I think Harry Ord is one of the most visually strange styled characters they’ve ever conjured up. I realize they were trying to use him as the masked character trope representative, but the way they went about it (maybe made sense at the time) in this era, seems very odd like disco retro. Anyways, it’s worth finishing the series. Hopefully you make it through before you have to pay.
Sochie pisses me off, but I hate that obnoxious type of character though. The whole story doesn’t really hit a fever pitch until the later episodes so you have a lot to still look forward to.
I can’t remember the name. But it was a film where some people find a tv that can see 2 mins into the future.
I really enjoyed it. Hoping someone can come through with a name and a +1.
E: found it! Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes.
Looks like it’s live action? I’ll check it out, thanks for the recommendation.
Just realized Sochie reminds me of Quess (Char’s Counterattack)
I didn’t feel too bad for Quess when she met her untimely end. Could have sworn some peeps in the theater cheered when she got offed.
I don’t know if you had a chance to see hathaways flash (I think thats the name) but it was awesome.
Unfortunately no concrete date for a sequel.
