Not all, but most, there’s actually a list comparing all these anime songs to the songs they’re based on, so with that said, is there a western song it reminds you of? [/quote]
Not really, actually. For some reason it vaguely reminds me of some Lords of Acid a friend used to listen to, but I wasn’t like a huge fan of theirs. If I had to pick a similar song, it’d be Word Up by Cameo :joy:

I think it was in Japanese, but I know sometimes anime themes mix Japanese and English. I want to say there was some pretty thumpin’ bass. It was the kind of thing you might hear like an orchestral stab in. The vocals were the memorable part, there was one syllable sustained like this ascending slide up over the course of about a bar and it was, like, kind of annoying but also super catchy (obviously).

Oh yeah, big dumb stompin’ beat. Snares on the 2 and 4.

Like 90-95% sure. If not an anime, something adjacent. Somehow.

Nah, not the Evangelion theme. I know this one well and it’s like 20x more melodic than what I’m thinking of. That’s kind of poppy, but the one I’m thinking of almost sounds sarcastic or satirical. I think it was like a comedy show.

I’m pretty sure the main vocal was female, but it could have been like a chorus of 2-3 voices. Definitely not harmonized, though.

Thanks for your interest

Not this one, nice beat though. Buttery smooth. Definitely not whiny, just that kind of 00s Dragon Ash style thing.

Another good beat. (Not the one I was thinking of though )

I love a mystery! word up by cameo, that’s super funky and may help narrow it down. And you’re pretty sure it’s 20ish years old?

And it’s not very melodic but is dancy? or like LOA style?

Let’s say 15-30 years old.

Hmm, I don’t think I know what LOA is. Not very melodic but dancy, exactly. Like… a little too corny to play in a club (at least any club I’ve ever been in), but just about the right density, EQ, etc.

FOUND IT! Nice lead!

Did it say “word up” on the suspiciously similar list?

Doesn’t look like it, you must have just had a moment of clarity when you saw the title. That’s awesome!

  • For whatever reason, Gojou Shioji from Excel♡Saga appears to have “Another One Bites the Dust” as his theme song, with a few courtesy notes thrown in.
  • The second episode uses a parody of Metallica’s “Sad but True.”
  • The track “Ikamino Gekiban” sounds like the theme song from The Simpsons for some reason.

It was actually the name Excel Saga that caught my eye. I couldn’t remember that name until then, but I remembered it was something like that. For some reason, I kept thinking Full Metal Panic.

Have you seen amagi brilliant park?

another production by kyoto animation and they borrowed the mascot/mouse character from fumoffu (with the authors permission), it’s a pretty funny weird series.

the character’s name is actually moffle.

Quite a few 90s shoujo had some driving dance-y tracks:

No doubt this influenced the Vision of Escaflowne ED - a show which wasn’t technically shoujo but they tried to appeal to a female audience.

Have not, will check it! I keep trying to find some good anime. I’m a super casual anime watcher. Last one I saw that I liked was Steins:Gate a few months back. Before that was GTO which was probably 2-3 years ago. Much longer than that I really liked Welcome to the NHK and Psycho Pass. I really liked Kill La Kill’s animation too but I dropped off after 1-2 episodes for some reason.

Oh yeah I had a little OG Dragonball phase a few years ago. It mostly aged like milk but those synth sound effects were SO sick.

Initial D totally popularized eurobeat with car culture people in the early 2000’s. So many civics and miatas bumping euro dance haha.

that’s a pretty diverse grouping, sounds like if the story is entertaining and the animation is good you’ll give it a shot. You’d probably like the tatami galaxy but the pacing is really fast,

the first time I watched it I had to pause a lot to read subtitles and I’m really experienced with reading subtitles, it just moves so fast. There are also a couple of good follow ups to it with the same universe or same characters. You may also like kemonozume which is weird but has an interesting story, the director is excellent. He also did ping pong the animation which is way more interesting than you’d think.

I’d also suggest dorohedoro which is something we discussed in here before, it’s great.
