AR Analog Rytm feature request thread

Performance Mode option that allows…and forgive me, I don’t have the language for this…a kind of -1 - +1 or multidirectional option. So that, as opposed to only going up or down, the parameter could go both ways.

Oh and while I’m here anyway 2nd LFO forever.

These are some small tweaks that would make the workflow on the RYTM so much better. Maybe not all these can actually be implemented due to DSP and or hard routing limitations but, I think some of these tweaks seem reasonable. here they are:

  1. I would love to have the option of previewing samples in the +drive or in the RAM Directly out to master, instead of through the track settings. It would be nice if we could choose if we want “track thru” or “master thru”. Many times I find myself going through samples and not realizing that the samples are being heavily processed with a filter or something and if I want to hear them show up CLEAN, I have to go through all my settings and clear them first. I know this is possible because when I fresh record a sample for a track, it is previewed automatically straight through the master (or direct out) instead of through the track settings. this tells me the routing should be able to support this.

  2. speaking of resetting all the settings, I would love it if there was some sort of indicator on any of the parameters that could indicate which ones were being modulated by the LFO. like an little line or something so I could quickly glance at the pages and see it. Also it would be nice if either on the parameter itself, were to blink in time with the LFO rate, or if on the LFO page itself, there were a blinking indicator to reference the LFO rate– I think it would clarify many of the speed settings and make them much easier to adjust.

I’ve seen so many threads requesting a second LFO per track, but if that is absolutely not possible, what about just being able to assign the SAME LFO to multiple parameters on a track?

ALSO as far as LFO assignment, it would be cool if I could just “long hold” down one of the knobs and it would auto assign the LFO to that parameter, and maybe after assigning it could allow me to twist the knob to set the depth quickly if done within a certain timeframe. Just throwing it out there.

  1. I would love to have a Sample offset feature where I could easily nudge the sample forward or backward in time so I could better align transients from the sample and the synth voice. just to be able to nudge it forward or backward in time. I think that could be implemented pretty easily.

  2. speaking of sampling, in order for layers to be melded more smoothly it would be cool to have a digital filter on the sample page just to cut low or high end, before both voices go through the analog filter, but there may be some serious GUI limitations and or DSP so who knows if this is actually a realistic request.

  3. just a small thing but it would be cool to have a set loop brace adjustment so I could move the loop brace all at once like on the digitakt. (Hod “func” on “loop start” and move entire brace at once?)

  4. speaking of the digitakt the master mixer page for the digitakt seems pretty handy, I know there are more than 8 voices but I imagine if you hold FUNC I could see maybe the linked voices could be adjusted in a secondary function menu.

  5. Along with Global Swing settings, it would be cool to have a global humanize knob. when you turn it, it randomizes micro timing of all hits per track. possible also to randomize velocity too? or maybe we can just make velocity an assignable parameter for LFOs ( i know we can just LFO volume control, but its different if you have mods programmed to change with velocity so…)

  6. I would love a gain reduction meter on the master compressor. but also would would be cool is a quick A/B on off button so you could compare the mix with compression and w out compression quickly.

  7. Some form of UNDO function. even if it was just one layer deep or multiple undo. especially when live recording, either live recording parameter changes or live recording drum pad hits. it would be a GODsend to just undo!

  8. And one of my biggest requests is sample Upload / Download through the overbridge VST. If I could edit and mangle samples in my DAW, and then quickly throw them onto the machine (maybe even straight onto a pad) right from my production session it might even negate many of the feature requests I have previous on this list. I think if Elektron just made this change along it would just be such a huge addition to the functionality of this machine.

These are just some ideas that Ive noticed while toying with the machine that I would really appreciate and think would be realistic. and since Elektron seems open to feedback about their machines and also constantly on the ball w updates, I figured I’d share some thoughts.

Thanks for reading!

3 dependent on total length inserting some silence before your sample could achieve this with START parameter

4 nah, this interrupts pure analog signal path

5 can be done with a perf pad

7 a pseudo reverse form of this; play in a human sloppy pattern, turn global quantise up full, then you have one knob to introduce your humanised groove

8 the mix knob held down is pretty quick…

9 save a backup of a pattern before recording changes

Don’t know if this has been mentioned, but it’s be nice if the sample slot could play all notes if the tunes knob is set above or below 0. It sucks when you’ve layered a synth voice along with a sample and you enter a note beyond the running range causing them to be out of tune with each other

I have no problem at all with the kit structure in the AR and AK, but I would very very very much like the option to save ALL the kits of a project at once (or please tell me this is possible and I am missing it) Idem for Analog Keys…
the OT has this wonderful function of saving all the parts (which essentially are kits…)

When I am working on a live set, and fine tuning some settings here and there, I have to save all the kits before shutting down (in the zone I don’t remember which kits I changed and which I didn’t…)
I have to do this for the AR and the AK, which takes a lot of time and is nerve wrecking. Kind of like writing a sentence 500 times when punished at school!

Not sure if this has been requested but here goes:
TRACK + PAD + PAGE to trigger fill mode of the selected track only

Finer start / end point values like the Digitakt offers, two decimal places would be amazing!
& the trig preview behavior that was recently added to the Digitone/Digitakt firmware.

Trig preview by FUNC+Yes would make this great machine even better and easier to use.
Trig + drum pad does not really work as it overwrites both velocity and note and it only works when the seq is stopped. Trig+Yes is consistent with the new updates for the Digi devices and is a great solution.

Trig Probability would be great too

Really would like per pattern mutes, they are better than global mutes imo

+1 I’ve been wanting this since I got the AR.
(I don’t use Song mode since I switch patterns manually)

Mute buttons when AR is sequenced externaly.

Specific sample pools. So you can set the LFO to sample slot and specify which samples it uses as its pool for random wave .

intro and outro envelope (maybe bound to the sequencer) on the scenes would be awesome, so one can make that change like with the fader on the OT

Isn’t that already what the Performance mode is for?

i thought the p-mode is just for momentary parameter-changes or to lock when you change to scene-mode

Oldie but a goodie…

Simple Scale mode for chromatic pad playing.

I don’t need a lot of options but sometimes having at least a full octave on those pads when bangin out melodic stuff would be great.

Just the simple major/minor scales would be a game changer for me.

E: After thinking on this some more, I realized it might get weird with 7 note scales and 12 pads. I made a mockup of my solution for this.

I am fully aware this is a pipe dream but this is Feature Requests, damn it. We are all just dreamin here.

I think a simple major/minor option alone would mean the world. You can work out modes and most alternate scales easily enough with some theory. I don’t even think a root key selection is needed as you can just tune the sample or machine accordingly.

The aim of this is for quicker on the fly playing, not to have every scale option in the world.

4 pads could be dedicated to quickly switching through octaves. The arrow keys that used to do this could switch between major and minor. Ideally this could be menu option, leaving the original Chromatic mode available.

I don’t know if this has been brought up anywhere (sorry if it has) but I would love a subtle 3-band type EQ added to the filter section. I often want to subtly shape my drum sounds and I find the filters on the Rytm to be quite extreme.

It’d been discussed a lot. It’s highly doubtful.

Either there would already be 8 analog eqs or they would need to update it with 8 digital eqs.

Obviously the former aren’t there and the latter, in my opinion, goes against the nature of the analog.

Ah okay. Thanks for filling me in.

I’d be cool with digital EQ’s personally, as long as they were transparent when not in use. I hear you that it might be unlikely though.

Cheers.

Idk…

I feel like my Rytm color is just a little too… idk.

Bright?
