I have an all hardware setup with my Octatrack MKI at the core. I’ve been using a simple Arturia keystep as my MIDI keyboard set to my autochannel. It’s great but I wanted to expand what I could do so I got a Roland A300. I’m hoping to, for example, map sample track volumes to the faders. I’m having a terrible time figuring out how to make it work, even for simple keyboard use. I’ve set the A300 to my autochannel but nothing happens. I’ve checked cables and correct jacks and such. Seems like I’m missing something but I can’t trll what. Anyone have experience here? Many thanks!!
Do you have set Audio CC In on your OT to on? Go to Project Menu, Midi.
Have you set midi channels for the audio tracks?
Check under Midi, Channels, Trig CH.
If you want to control all tracks, map the faders to the tracks midi channels, i.e. track 1 is set to midi channel 1, set the fader, that should control track volume for track 1 to CC07 on midi channel 1.
Set the fader for track 2 to CC07 on midi channel 2, etc.
You can ofc also use the autochannel to control the currently selected track on the OT.
Thank you for the response. I think the issue lies in the A300, not the octatrack. Out of the box it won’t transmit MIDI on the autochannel which is channel 16. When I swap it out with my keystep everything works just fine. A300 is set to the correct channel (16). MIDI cable out of the midi out jack. I dunno. I’m gonna call Roland. Seems most people use this controller with computers so the question may be a little obscure.
In case you or somebody else is trying to solve this problem:
As I received my A300 yesterday and had the same issue, you have to set MIDI I/F Switch to OFF (Page 66 in the Roland A300 manual).
With this setting the nine faders and knobs instantly worked. Haven’t tried the keys but it should also work. Hope this helps some other people as the A300 seems to be the perfect match to the octatrack in my opinion.
