This is really a long shot, but I will try anyway.
Bought a pair of these because people have been giving good reviews and I needed new headphones. Started using them. Noticed that one ear sounded louder then another. Wasn’t sure. Downloaded a basic dB meter app for the phone. Turned out true, there is a 4-6 dB difference in sound levels. Called the store, they replaced it. New pair - same exact thing. I called the store again, they felt somewhat insulted and thought I was screwing with them suggested I should talk to the manufacturer. I did. Sent the second pair to Shure, they sent me back a new one. Well, third pair - same thing. I sent them another e-mail, explained that I am having the same issue and with a bit of understanding they send me the fourth pair…same thing.
At this point I gave up. I tried Google and nothing came up. I am just baffled. I went for an ear exam - my ears are fine. I simply accepted this and moved on. Figured $100 wasted. I’ve been through worse. I have tracked the serial number on all the units and yes it’s indeed 4 different pairs. I gave it to a few friends and they notice it very slightly. The thing is once I know it’s there I always paid attention to it and it distracted me to no end. I believe human ear perceives loudness at 3dB so yes 4-6 dB is just over that amount. But it is there, I measured it, confirmed it, tried other headphones. I am practically dead certain at this point that it’s not me.
Like I said I tried searching for this issue and nothing. Yes I see good reviews and this is a pretty well known pair of reliable budget studio headphones. I mean, all the four pairs were being made in the same month, so it’s possible there is a batch where some components were faulty. But I am positive a known company like Shure would replace faulty units with no problem, they are a well known brand. I was just surprised to not find anything online about this, maybe I don’t use Google right?
In any case, that’s that, I mean it’s not that big of a deal, I am not upset or anything, I am actually more driven to simply find out what’s actually going on.
